Beltre and Helton are 100% deserving. I would have liked to see Mauer spend more time at catcher, but I don't have any strong objection to him either.

Was Mauer the one that had the constant recurring concussion issues at the end? Or was it the other M twin, Morneau

So basically Helton had a career OPS+ of 100?

Mauer is kinda like Banks, best of generation at his original position, then injuries forced him to 1B where he was just a little above average.

Durocher wanted to trade Banks when he took over as manager and was overruled by ownership. Ernie wasn't really an outstanding hitter from 1963-1969 even adjusting for the pitcher's era. But those years of counting stats got him into the HOF.

No, tOPS+ is relative to the player himself. It meant that he had 119% of his OPS at home and 80% of it on the road.

Gotcha…it did seem low to be OPS+.

I remember Mauer sitting out for "Genral Weakness." But he belongs in. he's similar to Posey.

so it was the other guy, Justin Morneau. Morneau figured all the hockey concussions he incurred playing as a kid caught up with him that day it all went south in Toronto.

Ichiro is going to be on the 2025 ballot. Over/under on how .any voters leave him off: 2.5.

Looking back at his career, I saw some interesting things.

1. The 2001 Mariners lost ARod (a 10 WAR IN 2000), but signed Ichiro and won 116 games.
2. Ichiro wasn’t even the highest WAR on that 2001 team (Bret Boone was) but still won MVP (and of course ROY)
3. Not only did Ichiro get screwed out of the MVP in 2004, but finished 7th—behind guys with less than half the WAR.

I was a big fan for those first few years, but I think he tarnished his legacy a bit by hanging around into his mid 40s when he hadn’t been productive for a decade.

Corey Kluber retired the other day. He's going to join a short list of two-time Cy Young winners who aren't in the Hall of Fame:

Those late years got him over 3,000 hits, which is an insane accomplishment considering he came over to MLB at age 27. The only thing that disappoints me about Ichiro is that we didn't get to see the full sweep of his career.

What was always shocking to me was his swing comp was Babe Ruth.

Yeah.. he'd have had 4k hits if he didn't spend that time in Japan

I see both sides of the argument. Ruth would have to make adjustments. Lighter bat and obviously could he catch up with today's fastball? I think yes but like Caleb Williams, nobody really knows.

If he could have extended that peak for two additional seasons, he probably gets in through the short but dominant door.
