I seem to recall everyone praising the Bulls trade last month as a franchise changing trade. What is their record since? LOL You guys are falling for it again.

Definitely a departure from Pace's usual draft strategy of using 1st and 2nd round picks on athletes with potentially higher "ceilings", but with limited experience/success at the collegiate level. Maybe he's learned his lesson, but it seems he went for proven guys with higher "floors" that should at least develop into competent starters.

This seems to be a radical departure from the past, a complete change in the way they scout/evaluate at the collegiate level.

I didn’t praise that trade.

And the Bulls didn’t trade for a top prospect that plays the single most important position in all of sports. What happens if the Bulls hit in that trade? You get a very good double double guy who can help improve a few things.

Now.. what happens if the Bears hit on Fields? You see the difference..?

Tbh I’m not crazy about the 2nd round trade he made but I do like the position and player he grabbed. But he’s given up a lot of draft stock now. Still, he may have landed 3 immediate starters in this draft in Feilds, Jenkins, and Tonga

It's very weird to read about the Bears killing the draft. Still can't process it.

This may have been the best draft by any GM in NFL history.

Which means in 3 years it will probably be an awful draft.

Tonga could end up being an incredible pick.

And he needs to be a starter.

Starter designation doesn't really matter for DL. They are in and out all the time and Goldman has never been one to concentrate on conditioning. Tonga is limited. He can be very effective in a role. He's not an every down nose tackle.

I'm not convinced that Goldman will be welcomed back with open arms. Or that he is an every down NT.

Tonga pushing him could be very helpful.

Don't count Borom out of a starting role just yet. If it's true that he's lighter and leaner now, he could find a spot on the line.

I also expect Graham to see a fair amount of playing time.

Chicago Bears grades for 2021 NFL Draft
Fields is my QB2, and he’s an unbelievably talented player overall.

Justin Fields, QB, Ohio State
He was the most accurate passer in the 2021 draft class and has an NFL-ready frame at 6-foot-3, 230 pounds. Oh, and he runs like the wind. His physicality and toughness fit Chicago perfectly, and he has incredible upside.

He battled with Trevor Lawrence throughout their time in high school as the top overall recruit in the class. However, for some reason throughout the draft cycle, his stock took a hit, despite outplaying Lawrence twice in playoff opportunities during his college career.

Grade: A+

Teven Jenkins, OT, Oklahoma State
The Bears doing whatever they can to secure some security for their franchise quarterback was important. They needed to improve the offensive line drastically. Teven Jenkins is a first-round caliber prospect who brings an attitude unmatched in any offensive tackle in the 2021 class.

Grade: A+

Larry Borom, OT, Missouri
Larry Borom is a massive offensive tackle with unbelievable people-moving skills. His anchor is outstanding in pass protection, but his footwork is a bit clunky.

Grade: C

Khalil Herbert, RB, Virginia Tech
Khalil Herbert burst onto the scene in 2020 after transferring from Kansas, and he played incredibly well in his one season with the Hokies. He needs to prove to be a consistent receiver at the next level to see the field consistently, but as a runner, he really shined in 2020. He could have gone two rounds earlier and no one would have batted an eye.

Grade: B+

Dazz Newsome, WR, UNC
Dazz Newsome in the sixth round is an outstanding value for the Chicago Bears. Newsome has a strong lower body who is a good ball carrier with good vision. He could compete for a starting role in the slot and adds value as a potential punt returner.

Grade: B+

Thomas Graham Jr., CB, Oregon
The Bears grab some great value again in cornerback Thomas Graham Jr. He plays aware football and has more than enough athleticism to get the job done at the next level.

Grade: A-

Khyiris Tonga, DT, BYU
Khyiris Tonga is a high-upside explosive nose tackle that could make a high impact on a defensive line if he can find a bit more guidance and hone in some of his overaggressive nature. If he works to play lower and more technically, he has starter potential.

Grade: A

Chicago Bears Overall Grade: A+
The Bears did two things in this draft that were absolutely necessary in order to provide hope for the future. They needed to attack in order to get a quarterback. Furthermore, they needed to try their best to protect him. They ended up with Justin Fields, who is an immensely talented quarterback, and Teven Jenkins to protect him. Then, they added to their team after Day 2 with great value picks.

So basically the Bears walked away from this draft with Herbert and Jenkins as long term players.

Can somebody photoshop a Keyshawn column that gives the Bears an A++ to bump that GPA over 4?

Don't the "experts" gnerally agree that Caleb Williams is the best QB prospect to enter the draft in several years?

They do; however, if you look at the quarterbacks and think someone else is better, it's okay. MANY are afraid to go against the opinions of guys who are wrong A LOT.

Here's what Ryan Pace paid for T.rubisky and Fields, two middling QBs at best.

2017 first round pick, no. 2
2017 third round pick, no. 67
2017 fourth-rounder, no. 111
2018 third-round pick no. 70
2021 first round pick, no 11
2021 fifth round pick, no 164
2022 first round pick, no 7
2022 fourth round pick, no 112

Kyris Tonga is a long term player for other teams in the league.

That draft is actually really good for the picks they had. We may think Borom sucks, but we got 23 starts out of a 5th round pick. That's a win.

Khalil Herbert is a starter with a top YPC from a sixth round pick.

This was a good draft

No it wasn't. They traded multiple picks for Fields. It's entirely possible none of those guys will get a 2nd contract with the Bears. Jenkins has the best chance if he can stay healthy. This is a D draft at best.

Price paid for Fields:

Direct costs:

2021 first round pick, no 11
2021 fifth round pick, no 164
2022 first round pick, no 7
2022 fourth round pick, no 112

Indirect costs:
Bryce Young or CJ Stroud whom the Bears passed on because they still wanted to evaluate Fields.
