Despite his high salary, I heard ESPN Radio's Jon Stashower mention in a national "SportsCenter" update this afternoon that the Miami Heat might be interested in Stephon...

The Heat are only interested if he is waived and clears waivers.

Touche, Vince...Stephon's earning a lot of $$$$ for doing absolutely nothing in New York and so is former Bull Eddy Curry...Remember him? The Knicks would have to eat a lot of greenbacks to get rid of Stephon and those cheap shoes he now wears...Ditto for the Bulls and Larry Hughes. I was reading David Schuster's "Bulls Blog" on 670thescore.com a little while ago, and mentioned a potential return of Hughes to Washington if the Bulls eat a great deal of Larry's salary...

Exactly. The Knicks are talking about waiving him. Since D'Antoni won't play him, they have two options - 1) inactivate and occupy the roster slot or 2) waive him and eat the salary. Donnie Walsh controls what the final decision will be. My money is on them waiving him.

makes sense for the Knicks to do that, but I hope they just sit his egomanical behind the rest of the season...singlehandedly started the downfall of the Timberwolves (although Kevin did the rest)

that's a sore subject w/ me....fucking asshole. He ruined everything because of his own selfishness. I mean c'mon, we're talking about being on a team w/ Kevin Garnett- not exactly Dominique Wilkins as far as never meeting a shot he didn't like. Garnett is unselfish to a fault. But "Starbury" had to have all the limelight and attention. Had he stayed in Minnesota w/ Garnett, they had a decent supporting cast (Gugliotta, Donyell Marshall) that I think they could have challenged for a title. They were on the brink of taking out Seattle and that series was horrible how they blew it. And that was their only go-round together in the playoffs so we'll never know. Sometimes I think players need to recognize that beyond a few million (I know easy for me to say) extra, they are a better fit in one system. Marbury hasn't done shit since then besides challenging Steve Francis for player who can rack up the most stats without winning jack shit.

Interesting wrinkle on the trade from Yahoo sports...Iverson has the same agent & adviser as LeBron James does...they're hoping to get in their good graces so to speak...apparently Iverson was very upset about the Camby deal. Certainly one would question why James would go to another small-ish market team like Detroit, but sounds like Dumars is going to take a stab at it...with Iverson's contract coming off the books, resigning Hamilton and only a few other modest free agents coming up, they'll have the cap room to make a serious offer

It's not a trade rumor necessarily, but I heard an ESPN Radio "SportsCenter" this morning mention that Stephon Marbury has asked the NBA Players Association to intervene in the stalemate regarding his contract and the lack of playing time with the Knicks...

I actually don't know what the big deal is...he sucks ass, so he doesn't play. He won't accept a buyout, so he's just going to rot on the bench. What is the players association going to do? force D'Antoni to play him? It's ridiculous. If you accept a buyout, amazingly enough there are teams with interest so if you want to play you can.

The Bulls did it with Tim Thomas a few years back. Send his ass home and pay him and tell him to stay away from the team.

upset about the Camby deal? Wouldn't you have been if you were Iverson? Nobody left to rebound your missed shots and nobody to clean up after your sorry D...

I think that's more what he was upset about...a team that considers itself a contender doesn't give up a valuable defensive asset (especially considering they were in the very bottom of the NBA defensively) for nothing, just to save a few bucks

true, but realistically with Carmelo as their best player, they were never a real contender in the West...

Personally I don't think melo is their biggest issue. I think the fact that they play run and gun is actually the biggest detriment to being a championship level team.

You feel that because of the way their team was constructed, or you feel run & gun teams in general are not built to win championships?

I'm having a hard time remembering the last time a run 'n gun team won a title. Maybe the Lakers from the 80s, but even they had a strong half-court game and played defense.

I think 2 years ago when the Warriors knocked off the Mavs ( :D ), had they had a slightly stronger presence upfront they could have taken out Utah and got to the Finals. Boozer absolutely destroyed them inside and they got killed on the boards. Had they had someone like Webber in his prime to combat that, I think they would have advanced. And Phoenix has been close several times...could be argued if not for the Horry hip-check they would have made the Finals as well. I think it's just that so few teams play that style, so just by percentage not too many are going to advance deep in the playoffs or win a title

Good observations Bagels but don't you ever, EVER smile about that Warriors/Mavs series again. There was nothing funny or enjoyable about that.

Even though it's a done deal, Allen Iverson won't be playing for the Pistons just yet. :( ESPN Radio reports that Chauncey Billups has yet to take his physical, and won't do so until tomorrow with the Nuggets.

I think run and gun can be successful during a season, but you have to be able to make stops in the playoffs and run an effective half court which the run and gun doesn't support well.

Anderson Varajaeo and Wally's expiring contract for Marion. Would you pull the trigger if you were the Cavs?

that deal doesn't excite me if I'm a Cavs fan. Marion is a big 3 who plays the 4 and would require Z and Wallace to hold up all year.

I think part of hesitancy is that I am not a big Shawn Marion fan. I know he did great in Phoenix but his numbers have been dropping over the last few seasons and he's not hitting 3% at a high rate anymore (last year was 30%, this year 21%). He still hustles on D and hits the boards, but I just don't see the 30 year old version being the final piece to push them over the top. The upside of the deal is that this is Marion's FA year so you don't have to committ long term to him. So it's not as bad as I originally may have thought, but I'm not getting damp panties over a 13 point per game scorer coming to Cleveland.
