I completely understand how you feel. When my best pal Riggs passed I didn't think I could get another animal but 3 weeks later we felt lonely and rescued a little black kitty and she's the best kitty ever. Good luck and I hope yall work it out and share that love you still have with a pupper who needs it.

Great choice! A couple years ago our dog died suddenly in a rather traumatic event and my wife didn't want a dog for a while. That dog was by her side always for the last 8 years and it was really tough on her. But our house felt empty as well and a dog just makes our house feel more like a home. So after about a month we adopted a little hound mix and he's been great. I'm sure he's laying under the blankets next to her right now.

Plans changed slightly and we are going this afternoon to meet a few dogs through a different organization and see if any are a fit for our family. I thought that it would take me longer before we looked again but there is a bond missing for me and something I would like to develop with a new dog. We were considering a younger dog but changed our minds for a few reasons and the dogs we will look at today were relinquished and are older ( 5 or 6 ). I feel like we would be a good home to help an animal enjoy their last 3-4 years of life in a loving environment allowing us not to have to make an 8-10 year commitment. We will see what happens, as I take the decision very seriously. I'm sorry to hear about the loss of your dog and happy that you were able to find the next one and is working out very well. I hope we have the same result.

On that note, our Weimaraner puppy was born Friday. We will get her in the typical eight week waiting period. It was a litter of 11.

What does the Dairy Queen think about your advanced age?

Congrats on the puppy. I don’t think I’d have the patience anymore. Enjoyed the one time I owned a puppy though.

Impressed I still run a mile in under five minutes.

HBD  . I turned 64 a couple weeks ago. Alas, running a single-digit mile is well in my rear view mirror.

Same. I can still walk at about a 4mph pace on relatively flat ground.

Running is good for the bones. Shoes matter. A $20 pair of shoes won't get it done when you are over the age of 35.

Nice work! How many miles do you run per week?

What kind of shoes do you wear? I have worn Hokas for several years, but I'm curious if there's something even more cushioned out there.

You are correct. My wife insists we use good Brooks. I think running in itself would not hurt a "new canvas" but I come in pre damaged by all the sports, military etc etc from younger days.

I have run a lot over the past 25 years, typically 40 miles a week. I am now paying for that with some arthritis, calcium and attendant pain in my left hip. Doc says he sees that a lot in runners.

I run on a trail that's paved. I used to swear by the Nike Infinity line. The problem I ran into is they didn't feel the same on my treadmill. I switched to these Cole Haan's and they've been great for running on any surface. I even hike with them. Just don't try to make any basketball moves or sharp cuts if you like your ankles.

I haven't made it to the joint pain phase of life. I don't know how I'll feel about these things when that happens.

Keeping body weight low definitely makes a huge impact on knee pain.

Usually the knees and lower back go first. Hoka’s took the stress off the knees. Core exercises help with the lower back.

Yeah, core exercises and stretching for only a few minutes per day really pay off.

Hoka's have an insane amount of cushioning. They're a great shoe. I still prefer the Brooks Ghost, but I've had a few pairs of the Hoka Cliftons and they served me well.
