Good try Riles, but this has to do with not wanting to bring an injury riddled 3rd basemen back, and nothing to do with price.

To depend on Crede at this point again, would be like the Cubs trying to re-aquire Mark Prior. Crede WAS a great defensive player and clutch hitter. But he has proven that he can't stay in one piece anymore. It's too bad. He seems like a good guy and I wish he would have been able to come back from surgery to play the full season like he did prior to the All Star game. But once again, he broke down. Kenny needs to move on.

Unfortunately, there is no posturing here. Ever since Scott Bora$ stiffed White Sox Chairman Jerry Reinsdorf & G.M. Kenny Williams for the Alex Rodriguez signing with the Texas Rangers many years ago at the Winter Meetings, Reinsdorf wants NOTHING to do with the agent who represents "A-Rod", Joe Crede and any of his clients. There is still some bad blood between Bora$ & Reinsdorf, and it does not surprise me that Crede is finished with the Chicago White Sox, regardless of his back issues. When Crede wasn't exactly straight with the Sox down the stretch when his back started to act up again, that signaled the end of Joe's time here if you read between the lines. I think the Sox are moving forward, but Joshua Fields has regressed and can't possibly be the opening day third baseman next April if last season meant anything.

Crede burned bridges in the second half of last year. They cleaned out his locker and took down his name plate before the year ended.

Similar to the Magglio situation, Crede withheld information from the team that was paying his checks.

I appreciate what Joe did for the team. I wish he felt the same way about the Sox.

Goodbye dull eyed Joe. You had three good halves of baseball in your career.

Good Dolphin, I think you hit the nail on the head. I also think Crede wasn't necessarily honest with the White Sox once his back flared up again down the stretch. It reached a point that Ozzie Guillen himself told reporters that he couldn't rely on Joe again. It explained why Sox fans saw a great deal of Juan Uribe at third the rest of the way...

We all know they have interest at a price, but this is being done publicly to make sure Boras can not use them as leverage.

While I understand the ploy here, to do that to a player, is it really ever going to get you that player at a favorable price now?

For once, if Kenny could just shut the fuck up and do his job without the public drama he claims he avoids.

So is Uribe or the future Josh Fields the man?

I believe the White Sox are simply moving on. They believe that Josh Fields, if healthy, can hit 30 HR's at that position (not to mention 150K's, and a .240 average). Defensively, he'll be bad.

They have a guy who they had highly rated before this season, and they don't feel he's washed up or that they were wrong. It's time to find out, especially with his trade value lowered after this season.

I think this is correct as well. Crede said he wanted to stay here, but I think he let his agent pull the strings here.

If someone other than Scott Bora$ was Joe Crede's agent, I think the White Sox would make every effort to re-sign him. The Sox are not alone in their dislike for Bora$. I was reading Ken Rosenthal's column on FOXsports.com earlier today, and Bora$ and his outrageous contract demands may force the Angels to say goodbye to first baseman Mark Teixeira. There have been rumors that if Teixeira leaves Anaheim, there have been recurring rumors regarding sending Paul Konerko out to Angel Stadium that won't go away. As for where Crede may end up, it's my understanding that he may remain in the division with the...CLEVELAND INDIANS?

I wouldn't be surprised if they go looking for another super sub that can play 3B, someone like Rich Aurilia. He can play every infield slot and is a decent hitter in the Mark DeRosa mold. (280, 10HR, 60 RBIs)

Think Aurelia was on Steroids in 1998? 37 home runs
He and Bonds combined for 110!?

It would help some, but I don't think they are looking to give him another deal when they need to find out if Josh Fields can play. If they are right about Fields, they will have a 30 HR guy at 3B, but they must be ok with the defense/strikeouts if they can improve elsewhere on the field.

Hopefully not Aurilia himself, but I don't mind this idea, and we may see something like this if Uribe leaves. If Uribe resigns, he's the veteran protection against Fields sucking.

The other thing about Fields is that he is mobile once he gets on base. I believe he stole 20 bases one year in the minors. Now I don't expect him to be a base stealer, but he would add 1st to 3rd type of speed to the lineup.

It really is time to either give him a shot or trade him.

Good Dolphin, I think Joshua Fields regressed in very limited action this past season due to injuries sustained in the minors. While Joshua is a power hitter, he lacks the glove of Joe Crede. He probably will get every opportunity to prove himself in Spring Training, I think a trade out of Chicago is the best option and I think the Sox will do everything they can to acquire Chone Figgins from the Anaheim Angels this offseason, even if it means trading Fields and/or Paul Konerko to get him here. I'm going to go one step further. Scott Bora$, the greedy agent who represents Crede, will price another of his clients out of the market. Mark Teixiera is as good as gone from Anaheim, thanks to Bora$.

Because I think of the Robert Wuhl character "Arli$$" when I think of you, Scott Bora$, and that you wouldn't give the White Sox the time of day when Alex Rodriguez signed a $252 million contract with the Texas Rangers many years ago! How's "A-Rod" doing with the Yankees counting all that money now? Alex is the highest paid player in MLB thanks to you, but has no World Series titles and got booed plenty in the second half of the Yanks' non-playoff season!

He was hurt to the point he needed two surgeries this year.

His glove is bad but he is a willing learner. Cora considered him acceptable as a MLB defender at the end of spring training after working with him intensely,

Funny thing is that (defensively) Crede was viewed generally the same way when he first came up. Solid hitter  , fair-avg. glove, but willing to work at it.

It amazed me how quickly Crede's attributes were reversed after his first season/season in a half.

Really? Thought I remember Joe Creed (as many prounounced it back then)
was always a good glove man

Not at all. Crede won back-to-back minor league MVP awards (I believe he won the triple crown one of those years) but Kenny was slow to promote him to the bigs because his defense was so poor. He worked hard and turned himself into a great defensive player. He's a lot like Robin Ventura in that regard. Robin was considered all hit and no glove coming out of OSU but he worked his ass off and beacame a 6 time gold glove winner. I don't see Josh Fields repeating this trend.

Maybe Fields should pray for defense.
