Have the Bears even released plans or renderings for the stadium itself? Everything they've shown for their grand vision of Arlington Park is just various strip malls, promenades, and condos with places called "Bear Down Social" on the ground floor, but the stadium itself is just sort of an abstract grey blob. I don't think we've seen what the interior would look like, and I think that's rather important.

So I'm skeptical they could open a stadium by 2026 because I don't think they've designed one yet, and I don't think they've designed one yet because I don't think they're really serious about this.

They haven’t hired a Senior Executive President of Actually Designing the Stadium yet.

Stay tuned.

Yep. It's a black box. Well, pale grey box. I can imagine what it would end up looking like, though:

I think I read somewhere they hired the firm that did Allegiant Stadium, and that the budget is similar. Having been there once, I think I'd be mostly fine if that is how it turned out.

I hate that stadium with my life. It's so dark and depressing, and before you say, "well, it's the Raiders, they're dark," part of the Raiders' mystique was always that classicism of being under the California sun on natural grass and dirt. They didn't even play night games in Los Angeles. Now they have a simulated flame like those Christmas videotapes for people whose homes don't have fireplaces. Just the lamest crap.

The Bears would go back to playing on carpet instead of having a pull-out tray like Phoenix and Las Vegas, so I guess that would help them save the money they don't have.

The Raiders stadium is great.

The Bears aren't contributing $2 billion to a stadium they don't own though.

The cost is about $5 billion, right?

I hope not. This is getting funnier by the day. After Billie Eilish and Ryan Gosling, Kevin Warren may be the most overrated human in the history of overrating.

Poles needs to keep that dope out of the Caleb Willliams evaluations.

Brick might be correct that this is all a leverage play.

I don't think AH cares. They really don't want the Bears and the Bears still have to pay their taxes as long as they own the land

This is great. Hey everyone were going to pay 40% of the cost of the stadium to get it built!!

I’d think it’d be much cheaper to do this on the lake front without having to redo infrastructure & build a tiny city around the dome.

Plus the nearly $600 million still owed for the 2002 SF remodel.

I am genuinely blown away with this morning's news. Even as a bluff or leverage attempt it is beyond what I thought the Bears were capable of. This level of incompetence has never been more open and public and Warren even seems proud of it. Did Warren actually get a stadium built in Minnesota or did he just make it seem like he did? He seems insane.

Here’s the NBC5 write up. My key takeaways were:

1) $2bn will be spent; no details yet on how it will be spent
2) The Bears are preemptively denying it’s a tax play, so it’s a tax play
3) Kevin Warren desires to stay in the city, unlike Ted Phillips

The stadium in Minnesota is already falling apart

Item 3 above would be enough to shitcan Warren if I were Ginny.

In his self aggrandizing leak, he’s:

- raised the specter of the boogeyman (Phillips)
- made the multibillion dollar investment from his employer seem like his own pet project
- let it be known that if it’s not in Chicago, it’s not Kevin Warren’s doing
- preemptively said it’s not a tax play with AH, therein confirming it’s a tax play with AH

I believe his hiring also killed any chance of the Bears getting Harbaugh. This hire has been horrible for so many reasons but seems to be such a typical F’d up move like everything else this family does.

Property tax avoidance is his #1 priority it seems and if that's how they're looking at this once in a lifetime opportunity to build a stadium, they will fail miserably.

Staying in the city would be plausibly an option if they decided to own it. But this plan doesn't allow them to own it. So, to me, they're just in Soldier Field south. Why would you even leave current Soldier Field if the end result is a government owned stadium?

For all Philips faults, and there were many, I never thought he viewed himself as a celebrity. Warren thinks he's a popular politician or something even stranger than that.
