The numbers that reveal Fields' greatness just haven't been discovered or invented yet.

he'd become a cancer in the clubhouse if you keep him.

I don't know if there's any word or evidence of Fields being a bad teammate. There's no market for him, so you keep him for the 4th year....let him be a backup. He walks at the end of the season. Regardless of the starting / drafted QB....I'm fine with Fields as a backup.

Now....if word gets out there was ever a trade offer on the table for 2nd round or 1st round trade for Fields...heads have to roll.

i'm sure he's been a great teammate, but if you draft his replacement and make him the backup i'm guessing that might change

what would that do for him with free agency looming?

so he'll be a good solider, ok
do you really think keeping him around while having Caleb is smart?

why would he care that much? if no teams want him, and he doesnt want to be a backup, what options does he have?

Why would he care about being demoted and having a “generational talent” take over for him ?
Yea I’m sure he’ll play along , bc he was noted as being very studious before

Fields has struggled with accountability since he's been here. He's bus tossed coaches and teammates. It's usually subtle, but it's there.

Let's assume that he wouldn't pout and demand a trade; why would you bring your #1 pick into a hostile and toxic environment SOLELY to try to eke out a possible 3rd or 4th round pick from a team with an injury? That draft pick isn't worth dividing the locker room or possibly stunting the growth of the first pick in the draft. Damn your ego. It's bigger than that. Take the L and move on.

It would be pointless to keep Fields around if they draft a QB -too much of a distraction from many standpoints. I look at it this way, if the Bears draft a QB and he winds up playing lights out showing us they got it right.. no ones going to care what the return for Fields was or wasn’t. Move on, one way or the other.

Still some delusion on this board and on the radio.

Parkins/Speegs: he's obviously a starting QB in this league

Board: he's definitely better than Minshew and Winston

Both are wrong per the numbers, conventional and advanced. It's not like he's light-years behind Minshew but he is behind. So I don't know what the outrage about Minshew is about - he actually plays QB better than Fields despite being less talented trait wise.

I think the guys fields is definitely better than (for now) are guys like Ridder, O'Connell, Zach Wilson, Mac Jones. Guys like that, but that's about it. I don't know about drew lock or darnold. So still some delusion in the waters, Lombardi is right.

You sure about Zach?
Look at the numbers including 4th Q

Yep there are only a few people worse than Fields in the 4th but in the aggregate going by both QBR and EPA Wilson was bad. Fields peers following 2023 are the Dobbs, R. Wilsons, and Howells of the world but guys talk about Fields as if he self-evidently belongs in the Prescott, Allen, etc tier. Like guys just want to assert that fields is obviously elite regardless of three years of below average performance data on Fields. It's really bizarre.

The Mooney big deal, the Getsy hire, and the lack of interest from the league clearly say the league believes Fields is the problem.

What is the basis for this assertion? Chicagoans keep asserting it even after the past few days strongly suggest team decision makers don't think he's worth expending mid round draft capital to acquire.

Because I watched the NFL last year and saw all the QB's get hurt and watched all the shitty backups step in. Fields is better than most of what I saw.

Maybe the case for some - he was better than Zach Wilson - but he also failed to outperform Dobbs and Minshew, both of whom are journeymen QBs at best while Fields is thought of as a phenom.

Browning in Cincy and Flacco in Cleveland were also better than Fields in their brief stints.

Take a look at the list of the 58 quarterbacks who started a game last year. Exclude the starters and there aren't many that are better than Fields. My point (actually Florio's point which I agree with) was that if a QB1 goes down in the fall the potential return for Fields will be better than it is now.

I have that list, but it doesn't have 58 QBs, more like mid 40s. It contains rankings across multiple data points, including situational rankings (this part is really harsh on Fields). In a league with 32 starters, you'll see Fields rank in the 40s on a few important metrics. So while I agree that demand for Fields may be higher if a starter goes down, Fields' below replacement-level play (per the data) suggests teams can simply sign journeymen QBs and/or unproven rookies to replace their starters and have as good a chance at success as they would if they traded for Fields. In fact, the smarter move may be to find your replacement level QB via free agency instead of trading draft capital for Fields, since the production Fields gives you - outside of rushing - is again below replacement level, so why trade capital for that kind of return when you can just spend money. Again, I just think the assumption Florio is making is that Fields adds value above replacement level, but that assumption is not grounded in Fields' performance data.

Well, 58 different QBs started an NFL game last year so you may want to update you data.

I could absolutely see Payton wanting him in Denver in that gimmick QB role but they are so fucked with paying Russ and having no draft picks from trading for Russ that its not happening.

With all of this "certainty" that Fields sucks, you still were scared to bet that the Bears would receive anything less than a 3rd Rd pick for the kid.

fields is the kind of guy who will take this personally, whether he's here or not. knowing the kind of guy he is, he probably would mentor caleb as much as he possibly can. you keep him for one year, and tell him that. his value will go up by being a cheerleader..

There is no arguing with this statement.

It says it all about Justin Fields at this point in his career.

Ian Rappoport clears up rather easily just why there is no market for Justin Fields currently. Why would there be if he isn't on the block? Just Asking A Question
