Yeah, I thought it was the job of the Department of Interior/Bureau of Indian Affairs to cultivate relationships with Tribal nations and Indigenous communities. The U.S. government has specific trust and treaty obligations it needs to fulfill with Tribes, and some of these relate, I believe, to agricultural issues and the stewardship of natural/cultural resources. If UIUC is attempting to establish new relationships with Tribes, it probably should be working in partnership with DOI. Was the university ignoring DOI authority by creating this position?
