Return won’t be as big if they do it now, they’ll need to wait and see if a QB slips during the draft. That’s the best way to maximize 9. Poles doesn’t have the patience to wait that long.. I think he moves off of #1 and wouldn’t be surprised if a deal is all but done already to do it.

We’ll see. This move has an ominous feel to it for me.

I think more than one team will want to trade up for Penix or Nix at #9 (probably Penix).

Poles pretty much has to trade out of #9 at this point.

or Bowers or one of the tackles or maybe a defensive end

Why? Sure if a team made them a great offer its a possibility, but choosing a top-10 player whether it be Odunze or anyone else who may fall in their lap is a possibility as well. I can't see why they would feel the "pretty much have to" trade the pick.

Yeah, I think there is a near 100% chance they are trading back at 9.

I agree with this, especially if Odunze somehow gets that far. If they don't want to hear any "he didn't have any weapons around him" bullshit for the next 3 years you load up on skill positions.

The he didn't have weapons stuff is only verbalized when your QB sucks but no one wants to admit it. Mahomes, Stroud, Love and many others had average to below average weapons last year.

I'd stay at 9 for him or Nabors.

There are some other great options at WR if they happen to trade down.

The problem with Odunze is he is a body catcher.

Does Odunze get a lot of separation?

In the UW games I saw, it looked like Odunze was benefiting more from Penix's accuracy than Penix was benefiting from Odunze's ability to get open or win 50/50 battles.

I would trade down a bit. Brian Thomas Jr might be as good

let the midday show lose their shit when the Bears draft one of the white lightnings in Mc Conkey or Pearsall and they become fan favorites

I want one of the white guys. Pearsall because of the ridiculous one handed catch; the mick because of his gauntlet drill.

Problem is they’re down to 4 picks, 3 of which won’t be used on Caleb Williams. They still have needs on both lines so something’s gotta give.

Because they only have 4 picks in the draft as of right now, but many holes to fill.

You may be right, though, as Poles seems to have abruptly shifted his team-building strategy.

You will have the Broncos and Vikings at 11 and 12 tripping over each other to move up and get a QB

If the Bear's get the QB position right, and somehow got Odunze or one of the other top WR's, I honestly dont think they have that many glaring holes to fill to be very competitive very soon. Sure, every team has some weaknesses but I think the Bears overall are in great shape as long Williams (or whomever they roll with at QB) turns out to be at least decent. I think the Bears/Packers rivalry is really about to heat up in a very competitive way, the Packers are a good young team too.

I agree. They basically traded Odunze at pick #9 for the move down to gain multiple picks. They must like some WR's later in the draft. I don't like the K.Allen trade of a 4th and 36MIL he is owed. Poles has not shown he knows how to roster the WR position yet.

I rather they not signed Swift and traded for Allen and signed Hunter.

Not a bad little haul.

Albert Breer
@AlbertBreer
Bears return for No. 1 pick in the 2023 draft ...

• OT Darnell Wright*.
• WR Keenan Allen*.
• CB Tyrique Stevenson**.
• WR DJ Moore.
• First overall pick in 2024 draft.
• Second-round pick in 2025 draft.

* trade of 9th pick in '23.
** trade up from 61st pick in '23.

Would rather the Bears grabbed a young talented vet like Hollywood Brown and still had their 4th pick. Brown has put up solid numbers despite spending the 1st part of his career in a Greg Roman offense then last year on a bad Arizona team.

And, he’s only 26.

The only legitimate hole on the offensive line was center. They addressed that with a statistically average free agent. They have a ton of depth at guard. The only genuine need they have on defense is an edge rusher.

I don’t disagree -but it has to be on draft day. I doubt any team will give up a decent haul today with no assurance that their guy is there at 9. And that’s a slight issue with trading 9 -I’m not so sure Poles will want to wait that long.. he seems more like a ‘bird in hand’ type.

But yeah, if he can wait until the draft is underway and the order is more decided then I think he can get a good return on that pick.

You're unlikely to find a better option than Allen in the 4th. The money doesn't matter. They maintained cap flexibility for a deal like this. Besides, I think it's only $23M. This is HUGE for Caleb.

I hope you’re right, but I’d still like to see them draft a center. Jenkins will be hurt at some point; Davis may decide he’s not a full time employee again.

Depth goes away pretty quickly in those situations.

You think the Redskins or Patriots are trading future assets to move one or two spot? You think the Bears are willing to leave the draft with the 3rd worst quarterback?

No, I think it’s possible the Bears could trade that pick to any number of teams who will give up future assets and much more. I also think it’s possible they stick with Fields.

It’s not what I want them to do, but these moves have got me wondering for sure.

The surprising lack of interest in Fields absolutely raises the possibility that the Bears weren't really shopping him and have other ideas.
