And the midday show wanted none of it. Only stats matter, until they don’t.

From a Dan Wiederer article:

In 38 starts for the Bears, Fields averaged only 174 passing yards. He had more than twice as many outings with fewer than 175 passing yards (14) than he had games with at least 250 yards (six).

Fields’ pronounced fourth-quarter struggles were noted inside league circles as particularly concerning. Coaches and front-office executives took note of his 64.4 career passer rating in the final quarter and a 53.4 mark in 2023 that ranked 39th among the 40 quarterbacks who threw at least 50 fourth-quarter passes.

Fields was also 3-12 in NFC North starts and 0-6 against the Packers with a 76.5 passer rating. He was sacked 135 times as a Bear with an alarming 12.1% sack rate while committing 19 of his 51 turnovers in the fourth quarter.

Fields went 3-17 over three seasons against opponents that went on to make the playoffs. He never exhibited the type of pocket poise, processing ability or overall command that typically is a prerequisite for sustained, high-level quarterback success.

It’s the Steelers chore now to address all of those issues as the Bears pivot with eyes on drafting Fields’ successor in six weeks.

Any mid day score fans will tell you Wiederer is racist and does not know what he is talking about. Tomorrow should be lit.

I’ll be in Vegas in June. I’m putting $1,000 on the Bears to win the Super Bowl this upcoming season. I hope to be laughing.

I'll be there, too. Putting the house on Da Pack winning it all and you being forced to take Kelly to Hamilton at the Oshkosh B'Gosh Civic Opera House.

Wilson is better than Pickett, easily. I always thought Rudolph deserved more of a shot than he got, and did play well for 3 games last year, but didn't really play all that great filling in for Big Ben when he had the chance. He got replaced by Duck Hodges for crying out loud.

mason rudolph is the greatest QB of all time that has been bashed on the head by a helmet.

hard to argue.

Steelers are already planning to extend Wilson.
So much for Fields being the QB of the future:

The Pittsburgh Steelers apparently would like to keep quarterback Russell Wilson in Pittsburgh for the foreseeable future.

The Steelers, who on Friday made Wilson’s one-year contract official, plan to ink the veteran QB to a long-term deal after the conclusion of the 2024 season, according to Gerry Dulac of The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.

Seriously, that means nothing. Denver wanted more than anything to keep Wilson for the foreseeable future. Talk is cheap. Pittsburgh also said they like Pickett. If Wilson sucks there will not be any extension.

I read that this weekend. The report said after the season, which is meaningless.

It means they aren' t grooming Fields as is the claim.
If Wilson tears up a knee or throws 20INTs that would be Field's big break.

Somebody made that claim? I’d say Fields is a low risk backup given how
little they paid for him. If Russ sux I’d bet Fields doesn’t replace him until they are past that draft date.

Disagree. Fields is definitely in the plans. Poles screwed this up big time.

Like Kiper said, if all you ever were going to trade him for was a 6th Rd pick then you should have kept him. The Bears are in "win now" mode and are trying to accomplish it with a rookie QB whom many think isn't all that good. If Eberflus doesn't make it happen this year he's toast. If Poles blows it he might be done as well. Terrible move

The Bears did right by Fields and sent him to the best organization in football. He'll have an opportunity to compete for a job that he wouldn't have had in Chicago. If I were a Fields Cultist, I would be thrilled. Arthur Smith developed successful offenses for other failed quarterbacks and MANY consider Tomlin to be a top 5 head coach.

He will get another shot this season. Whether it be Pitt or traded somewhere else. Not sure he will do anything with that opportunity.

He has the organization and coaching around him. He even has a potential HoFer in the same meeting room. It's all on him.

Yeah, I don't expect for the Fields Cult to acknowledge he's not great if he continues to be mediocre, at best, over the rest of his career. It is what it is.

He will only be talked about if Caleb busts. If Caleb starts winning playoff games, no one is going to care about Bustin.

Hey LTG, do you think Fields will take notes using a pen and paper or do you think he'll spend most of his time on the sidelines using an iPad. Whichever way he can be of service to the starters I guess.
