There was definitely a lot of Goff ripping meatpants. And meat just seemed to sit there and take it.

I liked Goff, but he was pretty bad yesterday. Seems like a bitter dude

Comical Goff's race baiting cost him thousands now getting the leftover crumbs for $200 filling in.

This guy is the GOAT. I was also a HUGE fan of pre Penn State Bernstein.

He got way too full of himself. He ego ended the golden era of the station.

Harvey Wells lack of leadership is what ended the golden era of the station. Never send a boy to do a man's job.

Paul Agase's unwillingness to pull the trigger on a move to reign in Mike led to the hiring of Mitch to finish what Harvey never started.

Almost forgot, a certain team owner in town played a starrring role in all of this as well.

Harvey Wells and Paul Agase. Haven't seen those names come up in ages. I don't remember a lot of kind words for Harvey here.

I always thought that Harvey was a really nice guy. A salesman thru and thru.

He never should have been put in charge. Jeff Schwartz (aka Spaceballs) was another guy that never should have been put in a management position, that also drove a few nails into the coffin of that era.

Hey, credit to North for accumulating the power. How that hot dog stand bit and all the variations of it lasted as long as it did, I'll never know.

Not originally, but he became that guy later on.

Jeff was a very creative guy.

The hot dog stand lasted because of Mike's personality and Bebe's hard work.

North wasn't some knuckle dragging idiot. That carefully crafted image took a lot of hardwork and put millions in his pockets.

I said it was a bit. It's why I wasn't in. I'm not saying he didn't have legit, uncompromising thoughts.

There are different types of intelligence.

Mike was a street smart guy who figured out quicker than anyone else at the old 4949 how to make the most money in radio.

I can agree with street smart. Still not bright in the conventional sense.

Did this cost North anything outside of a dent to his reputation? Being smart doesn't exempt you from fuck ups. IIRC, Harvard Jiggetts was in on this as well. North's biggest fuck up was not seeing the decline of the industry.

"Street smart" North entrusted his future (and that of many of his friends) in a guy who he checked up on using a google search. And his biggest fuck-up was thinking he had brilliant political thoughts and could be another Don Wade.

Desperation, anger, greed, ego, etc can blind the smartest men too. I didn't like the politics thing, but we both know people like to have their thoughts validated, particularly by someone they liked and respected. North was that guy for MANY sports radio listeners.

Edit: If perfection is the bar for high praise, we're all going to fall short, even in the areas we're "experts".

To be fair, nobody needs brilliant political thoughts to succeed, least of all political commentators and politicians

Fair enough, Nas makes a cogent argument that'll answers my question. Ego and greed can lead to mistakes...

And Mike was also desperate at that point, which Nas said.

He screwed himself by letting his ego walk away from $750K a year.

Mike Mulligan has had a weekday show on the Score longer than Mike North did. That's weird to think about.
