One thing forsure, Noone should depend on little Caleb to seriousy try to tackle anyone big on his interceptions.

That’s the weirdest scouting report I’ve ever seen.

Tall Midget, you're going to need a warm rag and a cigarette. Hopefully, it's as good for you as it was for me.

Yeah, the quick release, pocket awareness, and blitz recognition are all areas where he seems to excel. He's also great at throwing from different arm angles with his feet in less than optimal positions. His ability to hit open receivers with defenders on top of him appears to be excellent.

For me, though, what stands out after watching Fields play for three years, is that Williams "is" a quarterback rather than being somebody who simply "plays" quarterback. He's a very savvy/resourceful player, senses pressure very well, thinks pass before run, moves up well in the pocket, throws with anticipation, etc.

That said, there's a lot of slow-developing deep plays on this video. I'd like to see more quick reads over the middle to get a better sense of his capabilities.

But there's obviously a lot to like with this guy.

IMO, he's already a better quarterback than Fields. He has to learn how to play under center, cut down on the fumbles, and learn how to read pro defenses, but there is a lot to be encouraged by.

Yeah, he seems to have a feel for the position and an array of skills that Fields lacks. He seems significantly ahead of Fields in a lot of areas.

It's not surprising. He's ahead of a lot of qb.

It's very strange to me that a former heisman winner and the most talked about qb in each of the past few years seems to be underhyped. Teams across the league were talking about tanking for Caleb last year. Good fortune strikes us and now people are reticent about drafting him. I guess it is like when people actually wanted to take Beasley over Rose.

It's the social media age imo. 20-30 years ago, you'd only have the opinions of scouts, team personnel officials, coaches, etc., in newspapers and on TV. They'd all say Caleb, like they do now, so that would be the dominant national opinion that is also regurgitated in the Tribune, Sun Times, and on the local sports radio shows, so the league evaluation of Caleb is spread via national and local media platforms to shape people's opinions on the draft. You might have on occasion a hot-take radio show host like Mike North say the better QB is McCarthy or whatever to spark a discussion, but that discussion is limited and local. The Fields cult - again 20-30 years ago - would still be vocal, but their dumb ideas are limited to bars and the barbershop, it doesn't penetrate local and national conversations. Now with podcasts, YouTube, X, etc., all these dumb ideas penetrate the national scene and contaminate the draft discourse. It's basically a microcosm of what happened with media generally once normal people started leveraging the internet to blog about things a paid prominent foreign correspondent on CNN made a career out of. That's why you're seeing all this dumb stuff on things like the Fields conversation - more trash to sift through.

Also is it possible recency bias, like some combination of the Notre Dame game (which seemingly more people watched than others), fingernail painting, and crying to Mom, all conspired to remove a bit of the shine (so to speak  )?

I think this pretty much sums it up for the difference between the 2. Williams looks like a QB. Fields looks like a crazy good athlete playing a position.

To me, no, because there's basically a consensus amongst personnel guys that Caleb is the best QB in the draft. In Chicago, I think the majority of anti-Caleb sentiment is driven by people feeling mad about the Bustin Fields situation.

and nobody even contextualizes the nd game. Road, prime time game on national tv. That's a bad spot. I don't have the number but I think ND was even favored as a lower ranked team. That screams upset.

I really do think the fingernail painting and pink phone has some people spooked. My boy asked me about it yesterday. I told him the guy could kick puppies and I'd still love him if he was a great QB for the Bears.

the whole draft market for teams is irrational right now

Maye is a very good player, Mc Carthy will be a game manager type QB, Daniels game won't play well in the NFL

I think he is the most under rated.

Game managers lack arm strength usually. Brian Hoyer and Chase Daniels type guys.

McCarthy has the ability to make every big throw.

And he's a TWTW player. MANY have him as the 2nd best quarterback now. I think that's accurate.

They make a compelling case for staying as far away as you can from Jayden Daniels.

Running is a big part of his game. Unlike many other qb, he doesn't have the body type that can take hits AND while fast, he really isn't elusive. His runs all seem like straight lines.

Poles politely said Fields sucked as a passer.

But the contract wasn't the only thing that led to Poles deciding to move on.

“I think the efficiency in the pass game," Poles said. "Again, I’m well aware, you know, before I got here and our first year, it was really challenging, right? Like there just wasn’t a ton around him, which is difficult and really unfortunate, too. But also, just like, when you look at a guy who is so explosive as a runner, you also have to ask yourself, like, longevity-wise, being able to hold up. You needed – just like that timeline. Everyone has got a timeline to become more efficient as a passer, and that kind of comes into play.
