Bruce Levine is reporting that the Phillies are talking with the White Sox about a deal involving Jermaine Dye. Perhaps they could get Victorino in the deal and solve their CF problems...

Not so fast, Sox fans...From what ESPN Radio's Bruce Levine said on "Waddle & Silvy" today, the Phillies & White Sox are discussing a possible Jermaine Dye deal with the new World Champions from Philadelphia. Shane Victorino likely wouldn't be going anywhere if it ever came to fruition.

I'd love a straight up Dye for Victorino trade.

Victorino's stats. He's a pretty good defensive player.

Anybody know his contract status? Is he locked up for a while? Even if he isn't I'd do it. This is Dye's last year of his deal. Victorino is 28.

The offeseason is not complete unless KW makes a trade with the Phillies.

Who are the Sox trying to get back from the Phillies?

I don't think they'll move Victorino (he's inexpensive in his 3rd season), but Kenny might be going after bigger fish, mainly Rollins - who's available for the right price.

JD + Richards + prospect might get you Rollins

Here is the Phils motivation:
Quote:
That's about $89MM committed, plus arbitration raises to Howard, Bruntlett, Dobbs, Werth, Victorino, Blanton, Hamels, Madson, Durbin, and Condrey. The raises should push the Phillies past $115MM. The Phillies' '09 payroll is not set at this time. They entered the season at $98.2MM, so a large increase is necessary.

Give me either of those players for Dye and you will see a happy dolphin. If you have Rollins and Ramirez up the middle, you can live with Fields at third. Swisher moves back to right. All you need is a CF, a 5th starter and a little bullpen help and you are good to go.

The ideal scenario plays out like this:
1)Trade JD & Richards + double a prospect for Rollins
2) Trade Javy for Coco Crisp & double a prospect
3) Make a run at Dempster
4) Hope Linebrink comes back healthy

That, and if Boras gets Teixeira out of Anaheim to allow the Sox dump Konerko there for Figgins... :drunken: :D

Scott Bora$ seems to live in a dream world if he thinks he'll get 6 years for Manny Ramirez to remain w/the Dodgers, and I've read on FOXSports.com that the Angels may not be waiting much longer with Teixeira and what Bora$ wants for the first baseman to stay in Anaheim.

Figgins has become a mythical figure much like Carl Crawford before him. He is a good, not great player who also just had a below average season. He is only under control for one more year and there is word that he has a similar disposition to Orlando Cabreara. I want him, no doubt, and I would not mind Figgens for Konerko. I just don't think he will live up to most people's expectations.

My sox guy says that Houston Street could be headed to the white sox or Mets. I know the mets would use him a closer, but I wonder where he would fit in with the white soxs

I just heard on ESPN that Houston Street is going to Colorado in that Holliday trade. Hasn't been announced yet. That's what they said. He's lost it anyway. I don't know if he can get it back.

Rumors already starting though that Street will be moved from Colorado.

I know his injury status is always a bit up in the air, but they are going to lose Fuentes to free agency, but I'm not sure if Colorado has another in-house closer or if this is just another rumor.

They have Manny Corpas who was their closer in '07
