The Bears are already a giant. The fact that you don't understand what a sleeping giant is and you think it means that they'll be winning a lot in the next few years is not my problem.

So, for all the people doubting the Bears get anything done. Are the Bears just going to be in Soldier Field for the next 30 years?

Nope....they'll be playing in Arlington Heights.

as much as i hate them outside of the city, i have to reluctantly agree

The Bears have two winning hands. The city/state gives them $2 billion to stay in city limits. They build their own stadium in AH and make billions on that.

The most telling thing is that the Bears haven't ever played any of the big cards. They didn't do any fake threats to move to Indiana. No rumors of meetings with San Antonio or St. Louis.

These things can take years to get it all worked out.

There is no way the Bears will get this public funding. Unless the new stadium can also double as migrant housing. There will be no support for this amongst the politicians. This lakefront stadium is a dead dog.

What's stranger?

Acting like it will work, or pushing this while upstaging your team's biggest NFL story in years?

Exactly. Overshadow the draft with an idea of a potential, hypothetical building that may or may not be something they’ll pursue if all the stars align over the next several years.

When was the best time to do this? During training camp? This is perfect timing. It'll likely be received poorly and we'll forget about it because of C-Wi11 and the draft.

Why wouldn't they? It's a parking lot. The funding is far more of a concern than if they can replace a parking lot with a domed stadium.

You must have forgot about the last person to try and build on that site.

https://chicago.curbed.com/2016/5/3/115 ... uit-halted

There is a massive difference between a museum with no connection to Chicago and the Chicago Bears. Plus, Lucas just moved it back to California where it made more sense anyways.

And, can a legitimate argument be made that because in this case they are replacing an existing development as opposed to adding a new one, it is status quo as far as Friends of the Parks is concerned?

Their lease is up in 2033. It's more likely they play the lease out than not.

Yes. Best they can hope for are some renovations to the existing stadium. The Bears aren't liquid.

I’d suggest any time between next week and the start of training camp would be preferable.

If the plan is so bad you need a generational athlete to cover its stink, the best time to hold a press conference is never.

Depends on how Ginny is feeling about the future of the team in 30 years.

Up until a few weeks ago Brick was assuring us AH was a done deal still. With all due respect it's hard to take anything he says seriously.

I've said from the very start that AH will happen or the city/state will give the Bears $2 billion to stay in the city.

In one hour, a plan that would involve the Bears staying in the city with about $2 billion in public funding is going to be announced though it won't be official.

Great timing on that post Bob.

So you are off the AH train now? Got it. I'm assuming that will change in 10-15 minutes.

I'll just show my work. This is from July 2023.

It could also be the city using the Cook County Assessment office to try and strong-arm the Bears to stay.

The only way to get the Bears to stay in Chicago is to write a check for $2 or $3 billion. That's why AH is going to happen one way or another. The city can play all the games they want but there is a 0% chance the Bears stay where they are without a massive investment from the city/state. This is just a game of chicken where ultimately the Bears will win but may not win as much as they had hoped.

And you assume the state is writing them a 2 billion dollar check. With what money?

I am not assuming that it gets final approval. It's clear that everyone involves seems to think it is going that way though. These types of deals can fall apart. It happened with Jerry World at the first location.

You think todays press conference is just the Bears coming up with an idea on their own? It's clear there is a framework for a deal with public officials. This isn't just the Bears saying "Hey, we think this would be cool". At least, I hope it isn't.

If you want to think Pritzker is going to be watching today to learn about all of it for the first time then go ahead.

I am shocked that he isn't fully on board on the plan he claims he hasn't fully seen yet.

You seem to be pivoting to the idea that the lakefront stadium isn't 100% certain to happen. I agree it isn't 100% certain to happen. As I said, Jerry World failed in the first location he wanted to build it in.

Wow. Vaccinated Bob seems to now be a fan of the Governor he has affectionately referred to as "Tubby" for years now.

Fucking windsock genius

An opening prayer referencing the 85 Bears is pretty awesome though.

I have to imagine someone is going to pay Pritzker a lot of money under the table to get him on board with this deal, right?

Can't be any worse than the Cubs having a priest bless the dugout with holy water.
