I'm hoping someone like Owen Cassie can push Ian Crapp out the door for good next year

Probably not completely as he has a NTC. It was like Stan Bowman inhabited Jed's brain there.

But I think that Happ will have less PA than either Cassie or (if he's not traded for relief pitching) Canario for the last two months of 2025.

Batting .211 and hitting 3rd this afternoon. Oh, and he's still just got 1 HR and on pace for 190 strikeouts.

3 Ks today...had RBI opportunities in his first 2 ABs and failed...the first one was with a man on 3rd with 1 out. struck out after tauchman fought off darvish and hit the ball to the right side to advance hoerner.

watching marquee is like watching soviet tv's 'programme one'. lots of goodies about the cubs...nothing about empty shelves in stores or prison camps for those in need of political rehabilitation. waiting to get some facts on happ and alzolay. did hear boog tell us that the current mlb batting avg. is .238 or .239; can't remember the exact percentage. the timing after another happ flop AB told me he gave us that tidbit to stop grumbling about happ. never knew a batting average mattered to boog, big analytics guy.

cubs fans have been used to state programming for more than their entire lives. Simple criticisms are taken as declarations of war because they have had WGN and/or the Tribune pumping them with rainbows.

Sciambi is awful with Girardi. Joe starts sharing intel about how to pitch sequence a lefty or how a catcher is setting up to throw off a hitter, and that orange goof reverts the conversation back to exit velo or the color of "T-Mac's" phone.

9th inning, zero outs, two on after Morel works a 13 pitch walk and Crapp grounds into a double play

i remember him throwing a temper tantrum when the previous regime sent him down to iowa when camp broke in 2019. that came after the previous season where happ:

Quote:
Happ struck out a whopping 167 times in 387 at-bats.

batting .225 with 1 HR in 142 ABs.

It feels like the first half of this season is Counsell weeding out the crap from the roster. Proving to Jed that "his" guys don't belong on the team to free up space for their replacements.

Cubs just 6-6 in May. Thats worse than the 6-5 White Sox thus far.

You hate to see it.

I remember some talk on the SCORE talking about Happ signing that contract last year. I think he had 2 years left and they thought he should have played it out taking the arbitration years. Then cash in big time as a free agent. Bigger then what he got offered.

Ya know what? Happ is smart. And I think he knows he sucks. So he was having a decent season when they offered him 20 million per year over 5. And he took it. Like I said, cuz he knows he sucks.

So good for him.

But there was no reason for the Cubs to offer him that money. Cuz you can always find veteran guys like him for 1 or 2 years. Now you locked him up. Pressure is off for him. He doesn't want to be bad but he doesn't feel the pressure to be good like he did when he got them to offer him a long term deal.
