The beauty of the US Open is the course make these greats appear a average humans like us. They are still superior by far but the appearance is there for a weekend.

Pretty interesting first round as we saw a handful of guys go low. McIlroy with a bogey free round is just amazing. Watched a bit of his and Scottie's rounds. Scheffler was spraying the ball off the tee quite a bit which is unlike him. Even playing poorly he is at +1 so definitely in it still. I heard that they had been watering the greens but suspect that will be over and done with and we will see the course start to get brown and crusty. I honestly thought maybe -3 would be leading but all it takes is one bad hole out there and one can easily drop two strokes with one bad swing. I plan to tune in a lot the next few days and just hope we have a good leaderboard and some compelling storylines and play.

I think I saw something where Rory has had a bogey free first round three times in majors and won all 3 if that’s any sort of harbinger.

It always seems there is one day the course is "getable" and I think that was yesterday. Those who took advantage of that have a leg up on the rest of the field going into the weekend.

Agreed. Clearly anything under par is a great score out there, but as the weekend comes it will become much more difficult to achieve.

Former Illini Thomas Detry scratching his way near the top. He's played well this year. Scheffler hanging around the cut line with 9 to play.

it’s an unpopular opinion because for the most part he deserved the grief he was getting but ive become a fan of Bryson. If you watch his YouTube stuff, his douchebaggery is a 180 from what it’s been. He’s basically just a golf nerd who is really really good at golf . He shares a lot of knowledge on his channel and does cool stuff with it. I’m rooting for him.

I agree with you. I put a little money on him at +1400.

I definitely have a lot of respect for Bryson playing golf "his way". I thought he displayed a lot of sportsmanship at the PGA and I dig his enthusiasm. I was reading a bit about the 3D irons he is playing that have a bulge on the face. It's that kind of outside the box thinking that is giving him a slight advantage here or there. His style is not going to work for MANY but it does seem to work well for him. We have a 3D printer at one of our manufacturing plants that I used to travel to that prints items in metal. It never occurred to me that it would be possible to make a golf club. When I think of clubs I think of either cast or forged club heads.

Bryson definitely has been a huge Dbag at times in the past. But he seems to be maturing and in a good spot. The tour needs guys like him.

I am hoping for a Bryson, Rory, and Brooks 3 way dance for the championship the next 2 days.

Agreed, his Youtube stuff has really turned my opinion of him. He's actually funny and light hearted...who knew.

He’s doing some color commentary right now and actually good. Not sure how I feel about that.

I thought the segments with Smylie were actually quite good. It felt like a mini podcast and he was a good interviewer. Shaping up to be a very interesting weekend.

I know I’m old and traditional but those jogger pants look stupid as hell to me. Are those zippers on the bottom?

Just wait until the next hot Latino or black golfer comes along and starts club flipping after striping one .

Technically not a belly putter as they can’t anchor anymore. I think they are long putters?

Don't watch a lot of golf, but this event always intrigues me. I would bet (if I were a betting man) a lot on Rory

(I won't, need me my horse racing money)

Good tv coverage, no?
again don't consume this much

No lead will be safe today and hoping we can have a few in the mix by the back nine. It’s been a fun one thus far. Happy Fathers Day to all the dads out there.

Tirico is good, I think I’ve been more impressed with Faxon this tournament. He’s filling Azingers shoes I think and he isn’t as smarmy as Zinger. He knows his shit and was well known as one of the best putters of his generation.
