This season is lost. Gotta think the Cubs will be sellers at the deadline. The problem is who on this roster can they trade?

Bellinger? Maybe Neris or Leiter out of the pen.

Happ has a no trade clause.

not seeing a lot they can do.

Would they be significant sellers even if they continue to flounder the way they have? I would think there would some smaller moves, like bullpen arms (even though the Cubs bullpen is a disaster), but I don't think there would be a teardown, more of a minor retooling to get ready for the off-season.

I think they are more likely, at this point, to stay about the same or maybe add with the long-term in mind (beyond this year), but I don't seem them trading significant prospects during the season unless they added talent who would be here longer-term.

Morel, Swanson, Bellinger, Nico... Goodbye! Happ if we can get him to waive his no trade.

At least the Cubs can go for the #1 pick in the draft!

Don't worry. He's only on the books for $40 million over the next two seasons. #WavesOfTalent

Happ is a fourth OF, a utility player on a good team. Might as well keep him.

The sad thing is the payroll is already large. It's just been poorly spent.

According to the Bernstein/Holmes show, Happ has been 15% better than other LF's (or maybe OF's) over the last month and that he's playing fine.

Isn't the bullpen a product of the manager not believing in a set closer as much as a leverage spots that happen at various situations of a game? I could be wrong about his view on that, but not having someone to finish games has been a season long issue.

They did spend pretty good money on power hitting, but their homeruns are down. More needs to happen, but they did spend a lot of money to have a much better offense than they have showed.

Hoerner to the Dodgers. Put him at SS, move Betts back to 2B when healthy. The Cubs can move Morel to 2B (where he's not a complete butcher defensively) for the rest of the year.

But the price tag has to be very high, like their top prospect.

I can most definitely see the Dodgers giving up their top prospect for a guy with an OPS of .680

Where do you come up with this nonsense?

I will be really surprised if they trade Hoerner. But at this point probably the only person they wouldnt trade would be Shota.

I would say Bellinger, Taillon, and a couple bullpen arms will be gone

Andrew Vaughn now up to 11 HR and 40 RBI, OPS+ nearing 100 after a horrible 1st 2 months of the season. This guy has become the power hitter the Cubs are sorely lacking over the last few months.

Will Jed be able to pull this off before Getz finds other suitors?

The team is mediocrity in its very essence. They haven't been good for awhile, and they won't be good for even longer.

This is just a joke right?

There is no world where Vaughn is an answer to any problem the Cubs have.

I'm still thinking they are in that middle ground - they are still close enough that they won't do any large moves that negatively impact their chances of making a run, but they also won't trade big prospects unless they acquired a player who would be here beyond this season. Based on Jed's comments, they can tinker around the roster, like adding a middle reliever without giving up much, but the team just has to play at a higher level for them to compete.

I think they pretty much roll with what they have and see where things go. They made add a couple relievers. But I dont see them making any major moves. Maybe if they go like 0-8 coming out of the all star break.

Yep, that's pretty much where I am. Even if they started strong and went 6-2 out of the break, they're still around .500 only. It's hard for me to see them "going for it" and they will lean on the current roster improving.

What do you guys think about Isaac Paredes? Looks like he's capable of putting up 25 homers a year with a batting average around .250. is that good enough? Seems like another middle of the road guy. We need stars
