What do you guys think about Isaac Paredes? Looks like he's capable of putting up 25 homers a year with a batting average around .250. is that good enough? Seems like another middle of the road guy. We need stars

I think they need to tear it down and fire the manager.

at the worst, morel was trending to be the dominican wisdom. huge step down this season. poor batting approach against pitchers he is well familiar with, by now. i thought he'd be better this season, better average for sure.

just wasn't happening for him and he gave you absolutely no hints that things would change for the better. seems as though counsell didn't know which end of the stick to pick up in handling him.

At least the Cubs starting rotation is very solid but the offense and bullpen have to be totally rebuilt. Pretty much a mini rebuild

This looks like a good move. The kid is basically working for free as well.

Since the Cubs traded Morel see a lot of people pretending he was good. At best he's a average dh with no position. Saw a stat on Parades since the start of 2023 he's in the top five 3rd basemen in WAR, HRs, and RBIs. Not to mention he's good with the glove.

Plus they’re positioning for the #1 pick.

Decent trade. Sounds like they got a guy that can hit a little better than Morel and actually plays a decent 3B.

totally unbiased Parkins and Speigal were discussing if Morel was going to be just great or a star well into this season.

Rays probably make him into one but I wouldn't fret too much because the Cubs wouldn't have.

I remember when he was a very good reliever.

The two players going to Chicago are reliever Jack Neely, who is the Yankees' No. 22 prospect according to MLB Pipeline, and infielder Ben Cowles, who is ranked 29th.

The Yankees always give the Cubs guys that were going to be exposed in Rule 5 anyways and Cubbie nation rejoices as if they pulled the heist of the century.

Who rejoiced about this?

2 lottery tickets. Probably won't hit. But it was a relief pitcher that is getting older. Might as well take a chance on a couple tickets.

Jack Neely is 6' 8" 275lb RP with a 1.18WHIP. Not a bad return Leiter. The other guy they got is garbage.

Neely pitched at three colleges in three years, bouncing from Texas to Iowa Western CC to Ohio State before the Yankees signed him for a slightly over-slot $150,000 in the 11th round in 2021. New York immediately moved him to the bullpen and he has dominated in that role, ranking fifth among Minor League relievers (minimum: 50 innings) with a 40 percent strikeout rate in 2022 and fourth with a 39 percent K rate last year while climbing to Double-A.

not a fan of 'throwing' in bigge in the parades deal. yes, he does have control issues, but a 99 mph fastball along with good movement on his slider and curve. maybe just needed a bit more time to iron out the control/command. diamondbacks getting good performances from a similar style pitcher in martinez. hopefully, the cubs know something about caleb killian that we don't. this guy is 27 now...let's go. morel and bigge (pitched a scoreless 9th inning) did well in their first game with tampa.

i see where jackson ferris - traded for michael busch - is having a very good year at age 20, only his second pro season, he's cut down on the BB %. 90.1 innings pitched, 113 Ks/39 BBs. last season at the cubs A level: 56 innings pitched, 77 Ks/33 BBs.

i would have kept leiter. i'll admit, when he's bad, he's bad. total meltdown in cinci last year, i'll never forget. will i lose sleep over this deal? no. i would have dangled hoerner, to anyone. sick of him beating balls into the dirt, 2 hoppers to the SS. doesn't hit HRs/no slug AND doesn't hit for average.

jackson ferris moved to the dodgers AA tulsa club in august. at AA, 28.2 IP, 8 ER, 26 K, 14BB, 22 H, 2 HR. marquee voices seem to be very happy with busch.

hunter bigge with the rays - 9.2 IPs, 2 ER, 10 H, 12 K and 2 BB.

morel and paredes each with 3 HRs with their new clubs. morel's miserable season continues, hitting .194 with tampa, paredes at .211 with the cubs.

believe leiter has gotten lit up with the yankees...6+ ERA.

Morel for Tampa so far: .194/.268/.317 with 47 K in 154 PA.

Miles Mastrobuoni can do that.
