As always Tanney with a great montage of clips to honor Parkins on his last day. The Good Fellas treatment. There was a clip in there of Parkins calling someone a condescending piece of crap. I don't remember that moment, anyone know what that was from?

I assume one of the clips was “there is zero chance Tony LaRussa will be hired as White Sox manager”?

Probably since it’s a competitor. He said yesterday he was lucky to even get a farewell show.

That was directed towards Dan Wiederer.

Who the fuck would be dumb enough to put that freakishly ugly bastard on TV?

I take it you've never seen what midday cable sports television programming looks like. Parkins is pretty good looking all things considered.

I see you’re still here sharing terrible takes!

Returns of Soup Fan Anthony, The American Factotum, and Anusface AKA Penisbreath can't be far behind.

Dave in Champaign and ZephMarshack were MY GUYS. Surprisingly, they were indeed different guys, our board just had two separate dudes from North Jersey who liked Tom Scharpling and left-wing politics and got annoyed with Dan Bernstein.

I don't remember, it wasn't too far removed from the "fields opened the door and threw a hand grenade" report.

I'm guessing that's Goff's friend Jeff Agrest who puffed that up. It's like "tragically murdered." No one's comedically murdered. Well, that's probably not true.

My list of candidates to replace Danny Parkins on The Score starts and ends with Jason Goff
That’s it. That’s the list. Goff’s return would right a wrong that’s almost 6 1/2 years old yet still wafts over the station like a foul odor. Here’s hoping that he can make it work — and that he wants to.

Pre Penn State Bernstein would have been interesting doing television. He's mostly bad and coasting to retirement now.

If you ever see video of him during the show, he rarely looks up from his phone and monitor. He isn't even listening to his co hosts when its a three person booth

The previous likable Goff turned into a tool. If you even insinuated that you did not like the NBA or preferred college ball, you were a racist. And instead of learning from his mistakes he dug in and got bitter.

I have said this before, but for folks who like sports, it would be a tough existence to be racist given the percentage of pro athletes that come from minority communities. Sure many will cheer for the one white NBA player on the floor, but if you were truly racist, you would not watch the NBA or NFL.

Goff was the last chance for the Score to get back to its roots. He was a populist who took calls and could have fun even with callers who disliked him. His early shows also had good production value. He spoke to truth to power, ridiculing Bernstein for his goofy notions.

Then, when given his big opportunity, he decided to mimic the Bernstein style rather than reject it for his own voice. It might have seemed like the smart move because Bernstein was the face of the station at the time. He didn't really read the market though, as Dan was unique in that he regularly underperformed in ratings but was still beloved by certain management. There was an opening in the market for the populist style as all the Score originals were aging or self destructing. As you can see, it is a style that has made some talent incredibly wealthy in the years since Jason tried to attach his star to Bernstein.

Dan straight out told him he wasn't going to help him in his career. Goff should have believed him

They should use this opportunity to just clean house, but it sounds like they are going to reshuffle the deck and keep the same tired voices in place, just at different times or paired differently.

You're not going to find new voices willing to do it? This isn't the 1990s where you have some up and coming sports talkers in small markets. Those stations all went nationally syndicated in content.

Anyone in Chicago with the skillset to be entertaining and quick thinking in front of a microphone probably already earns more in a comfortable white collar job than they could in a dying industry where your most likely outcome is fired with no job prospects within 24 months.

The old days of when Mac said he didn't roll out of bed for less than $300k (or was it more?) are dead, buried, and never coming back.

I don't even think a promotion like a new "Score Search" would produce all that many candidates. People would step over their dying mother for a job with the potential to earn $1 million for 4 hours of work. They aren't that interested in the same job at $75K potential.

It's nice to see someone actually succeed in the Kansas City to Chicago sports pipeline.
