Booker will be a force, but yeah it won't be as a rookie. I like him as a 3rd down specialist for now.

Sixth rounder and he's more of a sure thing to get 6-9 sacks than what they have. I'd rather gamble on him putting it together with more playing time than sign Ngakue.

Ngakue forgot how to sack the quarterback and he's coming off a leg injury.

He's younger and cheaper.

Not sure but they might get back more than a sixth if he leaves in FA at the end of the year. He was a second rounder.

Can never have enough pass rushers and you should be able to plug him in for about 7

Seattle team sites all said Taylor was going to be cut, struggles against the run and his production dropped when they changed defensive coordinators.

Seems Poles wanted to avoid losing out in a bidding war, so used a late round pick on a guy that will be purely a situational pass rusher.

This is likely the end for Dominque Robinson, still think Booker will get pass rush looks, can see them kicking Walker inside and trying Taylor and Booker opposite Sweat on pass rush situations.

Booker is able to play with some rather impressive leverage given his youth and size, rarely see young pass rushers have an inside power move like he has and you can't teach that, he could be scary after, "saying his prayers and taking his vitamins", under the direction of NFL level strength and conditioning coaches.

The real key to the d line taking a step forward is Dexter, consistent inside pressure, especially when they go to Cover-2 in passing situations would force a ton of picks.

This is at least a better move than the Judon scenario -not only did you have to pay the 32 year old Judon, but you’d be giving up a draft pick (in the 3rd) that could potentially start right away for a young team. That’s just bad value right there.

Here you give up a 6th for a much younger prospect who has a solid amount of experience/production under his belt. I’ve heard that Walker was on the block to be cut, which normally I’d be frustrated with giving up an asset for.. but this does avoid the Bears getting into a bidding war for his services right before the season begins. So I’m good with it being a 6th which at best is depth, or not on the roster by their 2nd season.

I saw Robinson quit in embarrassing fashion against the Bengals. He didn't have the stamina.

Not sure why Poles is wasting late round picks on guys that will be cut.

So much for the kid from Illinois being a "steal UDFA", early cut on a team that is paper thin at DT.

Could see them bringing another vet for depth on both lines after cuts next week.

This has probably been my biggest criticism of Poles over the last few years -he gives up assets when he doesn’t have to.

At least here it’s almost hard to argue because they’re late round picks but still -this is the same guy who was going to trade up in this years draft to grab Odunze (when he didn’t have to), or trade a 3rd round pick for a 32 year old DE coming off an injury who wants to sign for big money (eventually). At sone point, this will catch up to him if he continues to do it.

Right now I think he’s doing it to make sure he secures his targets without having to compete with anyone else for their services. Still, his willingness to play these games with higher draft picks is what concerns me the most.

**Pessimistic view of the offense:**

Caleb is a rookie who needs time to develop. He's never played under center and will likely struggle in his first year.

They don't have a true number one wide receiver who can make a play when needed. Keenan is older, slower, and injury-prone. DJ is an updated version of Allen Robinson who gets locked down by better corners. Odunze is an unknown who will need to adjust to the NFL game.

The Bears don't have a number one running back. Swift is an overpaid gadget running back who should share time with Herbert. Johnson is a borderline NFL player.

Every player on the offensive line is a question mark.

They have replacement-level tight ends.

**Pessimistic view of the defense:**

The entire secondary has a history of injuries or questionable play. You can't rely on any of them.

Sweat is overpaid and overrated. They don't have a true pass rusher.

**Pessimistic view of coaches:**

Waldron gets too much credit for Geno Smith's success. He struggled to score points with an offense that may be more talented than the Bears. Eberflus feasted on teams who had backups playing or had quit on the season.

You can't say those pessimistic views of the offense with a straight face. Supposition 2-3, 5 are objectively false before training camp even started.

on defense, they are now not only very good in the starting secondary, they go two deep in quality at every position

The only valid pessimistic view is that we are bad on both line. Unfortunately, they are a key to most games

Pro: Nate Tice says we have the best cornerback trio in the NFL and have good to great players at 10 of 11 defensive positions.
Con: Nate Tice was one of Fields' biggest cheerleaders.

The O line questions are valid, you have average at best players at each position, you are counting on guys that are inconsistent and injury prone at guard, your center maybe a solid guy, and you are counting on both OT's to continue to develop. Still see Wright struggling with outside speed, teams will attack his outside shoulder until he shows he can move his feet at an NFL level.

D line is also an obvious weak point. Poles had to waste draft capital to bring in NFL back up defensive lineman, he knows his D line has one quality DE surrounded by other teams rejects and unproven late round picks, and one solid run stopping DT with unproven young guys hopefully filling the crucial three tech role.

Honestly do not think RB will matter as much as it is not like they are running a Ditka era I formation power run offense where one back gets 20 plus carries. One of the first moves Poles made was to bring in a speedy back that could catch the ball, see tons of short passes to the backs.

Jaylon's shoulder, CTE Brisker's entire body, Gordon's soft tissue issues, and whatever is bothering Byard could be an issue. Along with Stevenson being a boom or bust corner.

This is the best team on paper since the Lovie years, but there are more questions than there were about the 2018 Bears.
