I feel sufficiently confident in him as a backup that I am fine to expose Rypien Bongs to free agency by being cut. Sign him back if he is still there.

Hasn't that been the plan all along?

Just imagine if he was paired up with Claypool!

Just imagine if he was on the Steelers and he was their best quarterback.

A boy can dream.

I've never figured out the updated rule across the league with QB 3

The 3rd quarterback can just be the emergency quarterback. I don't believe he counts against the roster.

I forgot about that. Good info.

The 3rd QB not counting against the roster is for the 48 man game day roster. You still have to roster the 3rd QB on the 53 man active. If a team has 3 legit (or bona fide in NFL terms) QBs on their 53 man roster then they are allowed to have all 3 dressed and on the sidelines on game day and QB3 doesn't count against the 48 man game day limit. You don't get an extra spot on the 53 man to carry the 3rd QB and can't use a practice squad QB as a game-day exemption 3rd QB.

Yeah, I love the kid.

I remain with you on Bagent. I don't expect him to be a starter and his arm strength is questionable....but the kid has good vision and confidence. He's absolutely perfect for being #2 behind Caleb and yeah...he will likely start a few games.

Rypien has been through the Broncos, Rams, Seahawks, and Jets. There's a reason he was available. I'd rather keep Austin Reed on the roster and let Rypien be someone else's project.

Bagent is a total meatfuck. He's bizarrely overconfident and has a fairly massive ego with little to show for actual talent. I like the kid. I hope he does well.

Bagent made pretty much the same pass that Williams got all of the accolades for in the previous game namely the roll left throw to the right as you are about to go OB. He already looks to me like a guy who can fetch a 3rd or 4th draft pick in a trade. I might hold onto him until the regular season as short term insurance and maybe see what the injury reports look like for contenders later in the regular season and his value goes up?

Bagent just might be real rags to riches tale before this guy's career is over. I really think that the guy has a lot of potential.

They're reporting that the Bears are considering benching Williams for Bagent.

https://www.yahoo.com/sports/bears-migh ... 08678.html

They could have made a change during the game and given themselves a chance to win. Instead they keep Williams in in a meaningless game so he gets bruised and beaten up more in taking nine sacks.

Dumbest organization in sports.

That would be the stupidest thing I've heard. Benching a QB because the O-line and offensive coordinator suck? If Caleb was throwing INTs left and right and had demonstrated a complete inability to hit receivers, then maybe, but it is obvious to any rational person that this offense isn't struggling because of him. He was sacked 9 times and nobody was open. What exactly is benching Williams so Bagent can lob balls at covered wideouts going to accomplish?

Yeah, I guess the only thought is they would prefer to sacrifice Bagent's health against an inevitable Packer onslaught. But they could never admit that publicly.

I get that they don't want to see Williams get killed Year 1, but then why was he starting at all? And if the offensive line is so bad that they might get your star player seriously injured, and the play caller cannot figure out how to somewhat account for a bad line, then it's all doomed.

If Jones and Wright where playing then I don't think we are having this conversation. Poles knows his star player can not take many more beatings like he did yesterday and come out of it mentally and physically strong.

They fucked up their shinny new sports car and want to put it away instead of fine tuning it for the Packers.

Poles never should have had Eberflus and Waldren behind the wheel. It's like having Briggs driving his lambo on the highway at 1:00AM after a night of clubbing.

You can’t bench him out of fear. Might as well move the team to Nashville if you’re going to run the franchise like a bunch of pussies.

If you want to bench him because you think big, strong armed 2nd year Bagent gives you a better chance to win, own that decision and sell it in interviews this offseason when you’re out on your ass.

Why the coaches would even think about benching one of the worst QBs in the league is beyond me
