First win on opening day by a rookie since 2018. Historic!

Pimping ain’t easy. It gets better from here

I'm happy the Bears won but Caleb sucked if we're really being honest here.

He did. He missed open throws deep and short.

I gave (Pro Bowl QB) Trubisky time, and gave Fields time (and loved the pick when they made it) -and of course I will give Williams time as well but.. facts are facts and he played poorly in his debut. Couldn’t even pass for 100 yards, I did not see that coming

Check out Aikman's first year.

2 INTs in 4 out of his first 5 games.

in game 3 he was 6-21 and 83 yds

in game 4 he was 1-6 for 11 yds.

I am not saying he is going to be Aikman or even close to it, but it is not unusual for rookies to struggle.

Caleb was bad. Everything on the offense was bad.

I don't have too much to say about his game but what in the hell is going on in this video? QB1 really wants to look pretty.

dunno how you overcome dude's inability to play in the pocket behind his o-line. Williams wants to get out to the sides and out from behind his o-line where he can see and shit, kinda like Russell Wilson Athletic Gear did in the beginning. Williams doesn't step up in the pocket when there's pressure, he moves out to the sides or retreats back further-- where, again, he can actually see the field because the linemen are further away--and ends up taking drive-killing 20 yard sacks.

the more NFL tape Williams has out there, those peaking around rushing linemen sidearm bailout throws to receivers in the flat are going to get jumped by good defenses and taken to the house

Aikman inherited a far less talented roster, though.

It did take him a while to adjust to the NFL, though. Steve Walsh was more effective as a starter early on than Aikman was.

What about Bart Starr's first season? Or Sid Luckman's. 1989 there were maybe 2 QB's who breached 4,000 yards passing. Now half the the starters throw for 4000 yards, even before the extra game was tacked on

Better comp than a QB from 4 decades and many changes to the NFL game toward passing offense ago:

Some believed that pop gun armed Walsh was actually the better QB because of the intangibles that he brought to the game like "pocket awareness"

We replaced a guy who struggled to throw for 200 yards per game with a guy who struggles to throw for 100 yards per game.

Overall a disappointing debut but he didn’t actively lose the game. The irony is the opposing qb forced things and actively lost the game for the titans. If Levis would have exhibited the same composure the titans don’t throw that pick.

Also Keenan Allen didn’t do him a favor on the dropped td.

They forced 3 turnovers and had 2 return touchdowns off those

Or we could point out Manning threw 20+ picks and completed only around 55% of his passes his rookie year.. I’m not panicking -I’ve been mentioning for months now that I didn’t buy into the Bears hype and knew the O line was bad and that this thing with Caleb was gonna take time.

Seeing some of the overreaction about things like his height is hilarious tho. Heights not what causes a lot of tipped passes -timing, offensive linemen not getting their hands on rushers, and play call location are more the problem (ie throwing over the middle more often) and so on.

Caleb looked overwhelmed by the speed of the game to me, that will come with time so I’m not worried there. My biggest concern going into the season was the O line and after game 1 it remains my biggest concern.

I have $50 cash that says the only way Fields is a week one starting QB this coming September is due to another player's injury or suspension. He will not be a starter in week one based on his own merit.
Nailed it back in March.

You sure about that?

https://steelersdepot.com/2024/09/repor ... t-broncos/

Says here that Wilson told them that he was available to go and they held him out anyway.

That’s a game that should be a W for the Steelers, so if Fields starts, he’s a minimum 2-0 before Wilson is ready.

At that point they may as well keep him in for at least 51% of the snaps this season.
