Also, I do wonder if Dan's general angst towards Barstool PLUS the fact that Eddie sounded like (ironically) Dan's meatball "hey, listen HERE BERNSTINE" impression just ignited, with the end result being his delayed little snippy 'you don't know me like that' tantrum.

That's the other thing. We talk about how Penn State broke Senor and made him too self-serious and preachy, but it seems like since the pandemic he's just been depressed and, as Big Cat said, curmudgeonly. There have been numerous Twitch clips posted here where Laurence is pontificating while Dan just plays with his phone and occasionally looks up.

Yeah, if you listen to the few minutes before The Incident, it sounded like he was looking for some reason to goad the Barstool guy into Jew-hating. He was going on about how Gregorian chants sound cool but the lyrics translate to "kill all the Jews," but no one did anything with it (and who would?). So either he had it locked and loaded or he just put himself into a headspace where he took a guy saying "Bernstein" the wrong way.

I listened to Bernstein and Holmes this summer more than I care to admit. I enjoyed Cubs talk and Bears stadium talk.

I think Bernstein has actually gotten less depressed since taking a back seat to Lawrence. Certainly he's bored more often, because Larry's still a bad combination of too try-hard and lame, but I don't think he's been a curmudgeon. They even make fun of how checked out Dan is and he doesn't protest.

I also don't think he has hit pre-retirement phase where he would be cool with being a pal with Barstool because he's too old to care. He should've learned from the best, Terry Boers, in that holding grudges can be very funny. But unfortunately his shot at Barstool wasn't executed well at all and it serves nobody to try and clarify (and definitely shouldn't apologize)

That's how I am with 1000. It's not what they say, I just don't like how it sounds. Carm and Jurko is the same, morning show, same. It just all sounds so clunky and bad to me.

lol...yup, this is the original tweet, I actually pulled the screenshot from this forum, just thinking about what a goofy thing it was that Bernstein did....Naso DM'd me to thank me for bringing it back up and putting it on his radar. Twitter at it's best..lol

It’s entertaining to see Bernstein get so triggered because he hates this situation but, good god, is “stoolie” such a dumb fucking name. Like “dittohead”, who would want to be called that or known as that?

Starting over again at Tulane.

You are an academic. You know a significant percentage of kids transfer after freshman year at every school for myriad reasons. Its not a starting over.

Yes. I am not implying he flunked out and moved. Could have just went to a better school for his major.

Thought it had something to do with their not being enough stuff to do outside of college at Bucknell. Too boring a town.

What's the endgame? One of Portnoy's fanboys assaults Bernstein, his wife, or kids? He sues Portnoy? Bernstein isn't going to lose his job. It's a pointless exercise that comes with a lot of risk.

They are slamming the shit out of the Bernsie and Holmes Show Twitter. Dan must have turned his commenting off. I only see some reposts he made.

That also just shows how little Dan really knows about what he hates. Does he think the company helmed by Dave Portnoy and Dan Katz is some secret Nazi community or something?

Dave Portnoy lives for grudges and most of the people he had a grudge with are already vanquished. I mean Deadspin doesn't exist anymore. The BI editors and author he hated were all fired, ESPN's John Skipper was fired, Suitman from HBO was fired, etc. All of his old foes are defeated so he needs a new one.

Dave will generate content out of it while also enjoying a grudge although this one feels a bit like punching down.

I know going after Bernstein is punching down, but Bernstein spent years sending his own smaller army after innocent nobodies so it's damn sure time someone did it to him with a much larger army who won't quit going at him online. He can block on Twitter, but the station and show Twitter will be much slower to do so

End game is Portnoy pops off another champagne bottle whenever the inevitable happens and Audacy dumps local sports.

Based on the comments he made during Big Cat's appearance today, Silvy definitely dislikes Bernstein and his tiresome "smartest guy on sports talk radio" act.

I get the sense everyone hates Bernstein, even his colleagues as none of them are standing up for him in this one. He treats sports radio like it's fucking NPR when all anyone wants is to have fun and joke around.

Ogie, will Portnoy and his armies lose interest in this fight? Can Bernstein just wait this out? If you were damage control for Team Bernstein, what would be your advice?

Big Cat is the best Chicago sports talker out there. That might not be saying much in a world of David Haughs but it’s true.

Yes fewer are better. That being said, if ever there was a mob I am cheering for it, it is the one that takes down Dan Bernstein professionally. He is insufferable. Ideally Count Fagula would give him a VD.
