You would have to think Ryan Bates, who Poles tried to acquire twice (and gave up draft pick capital the 2nd time when the Bills were going to cut him anyways) would be an upgrade over Shelton or Davis but what does it say that he can't crack the lineup? Sweet Jesus we are fucked.

Bates is on IR.

Fields has 6 more yards then Williams so far you clown.

On 23 fewer pass attempts you dope

And why do you think they are not letting Fields throw the ball you dope. He's on the same gameplan as M.Willis

It doesn't matter. He still has been decidedly better than Caleb Williams thus far

It's time to take a deep breath. Caleb is fine. If anything, I and others probably went a little overboard with our out the gate expectations. We're pissed about him missing on a few wide open deep throws because the offense has sucked. He's not going to continue missing those. It doesn't count because of the flag, but he threw an absolute dart to Carter (Why is he playing over Tyler Scott?) yesterday that would have been a deep completion. The kid has shown that he's tough and that he'll stand in the pocket. Failure is the best teacher, and he's learned some lessons going up against two of the better defenses in the NFL.

The entire offense looks off. From the personnel groupings, play calls, blocking, running, passing, route running, and catching. It's early, but that is a little concerning. While I don't think this was Fields against the Bengals bad, at some point you have to help Wright out when he's getting his ass handed to him and your $50M TE has to attempt to get in the way of Anderson. You can't allow any rookie quarterback to take a David Carr beating and make zero adjustments.

Khalil Herbert is the best running back on the team. Swift is more of a receiving back. It would probably help if a running back could gain some rushing yards. Tom Brady and Mahomes would struggle if the only yards the offense could gain came from their arms and legs.

The schedule gets a little easier. Trying to run the ball against the Colts with Herbert could be helpful to your quarterback. He'll be playing another home game in Indianapolis. With Kupp going on IR, the Bears should be 3-1 after Week 4. Caleb should be ready to take flight at the point.

Hopefully you're right. The offensive line is a disaster and Waldron doesn't appear to have any answers for basic defensive blitzing strategies.

Why would that offensive line be able to run it consistently against anyone? But I guess, if there is a team, it is this week.

Because the Bears had virtually the same line last year and ran the ball successfully?

Seems that way. The Bears seem pretty weak at running back.

He can't pass block.

Teams will load up on the run when he is in the game.

Swift didn't exactly have a stellar pass-blocking game on Sunday, did he?

Colts have been terrible against the run. Line up on Sunday and run it down their throats. Let the OL know in advance this is their day. Swift and Herbert all day. No carriers for Homer.

After watching some of the pros break down the film once again I feel a bit better. The fact that Williams was 15 of 18 on throws when they didn’t blitz (with some nice throws btw) tells a lot. He’s a rookie and he’s struggling with a lot of things rookies struggle with.

All his long throws he missed on he was either under pressure, throwing off balance or a combination of both.

Even the line looked a tad better upon further inspection, especially when not getting blitzed. The lack of a run game remains a concern but some of that is just needing to stick with it.

And once again, Waldrons personnel decisions are a big question mark.

Bottom line is there are multiple reasons things aren’t working right now -rookie QB, new system for everyone to learn, some bad O-line play, odd personnel choices.. I think it’s going to take a few more games for some of this to get cleared up but there’s reason for optimism.

This is how I felt after the game. Big difference from Fields missing wide open reads and Caleb over throwing them when under pressure. He is seeing the correct read and just has to get comfortable enough to complete the throw. Fields and Mitch would have tunnel vision and miss wide open guys waiving their hands at them to pass the ball.

No matter how the spin is going the kid is playing bad. And is widely inaccurate whenever he is throwing any pass other than a screen/dump off pass. He looks overmatched physically as well. You have to give him more time (2-3 years) but there is nothing other than blind faith on the part of those who thought that he was "Generational" to suggest that he will be much more than he currently happens to be

Pretty much -tho to be fair to Mitch and Justin they also had bad O-lines that contributed to some of their problems. Bad O-line play is always going to play a role in how any QB looks, very seldom does any QB play well with a bad line.

Calebs accuracy and decision making when the pocket was clean in this game was nice to see -15 of 18 (and those weren’t just ‘dump offs’ either). Even under pressure he made some correct reads but his internal clock, indecisiveness, and mechanics cost him a few times on those, but that’s lack of experience which is fixable.

This whole thing just needs more time -no one is perfectly in sync and there’s still work to be done but as long as Caleb stays healthy I think we’re going to see more and more progress. Look at it this way, the Titans have a good defense, I’d argue Houston has a better defense.. and Caleb looked better from week 1 to week 2.

He's playing poorly. The signs are there.

He's not overmatched physically. Look at his rushing stats.

He took some bad sacks though. Experience will help that some.

You also thought that it "wouldn't be long" before he clearly demonstrated that he was better than Justin Fields also.

That's why I asked.

I think you'll be proven wrong fairly quickly on that.

I do think it will be proven fairly quickly. Fields has been as below average as I expected. Williams has been worse than I expected through two games.

By the way, you ever going to answer if Williams will surpass Fields stats in Chicago?

So are you refusing to answer if Williams will have better stats than Fields did in Chicago?

You sure are ducking all of a sudden. You claim that CW will be better very soon yet you were scared of the bet that I proposed the other day. Which clearly doesn't mean that you think he will be better this year.
