This will be the most thin-skinned show in the history of the station. It will make you yearn for the days of the Coach and the Kid.

first show will be a Bears Monday, but i predict it'll be substantial time given towards the history of the station and how important they both are to that history, and how Holmes is some kind of trailblazer for being promoted to afternoon drive

I don't think it's a great pairing, but that's my issues with Larry I don't think anything works for him. Mitch loves him, he wasn't going anywhere.

I'll say at least it should be a non-PTFB listen when there's breaking news to talk about. They are enthusiastic about sports, which isn't always the case with other show pairings recently. It'll be in the dead times where we'll hear about their south side grim mens' evenings where it'll be unlistenable

Larry has been a good foot soldier for the station. I think he is flawed, but then again, so are most of the hosts. And yet, here we are- listening and posting about it.

As an ardent admirer of train wreck radio, I'll be tuning in for the awkward chemistry. This promises to be a historically bad pairing.

there's a difference between flawed and unlistenable.

Although TM makes a good point. Maybe I'll catch day 1.

Very on-brand that a Score talent search which includes television personalities, podcasters, sportswriters, and creates an entire media incident ultimately culminates in Laurence Holmes.

Who drives the show? They both are horrible as co-host and fine on their own.

Spiegel is going to pander to Holmes.

I can see why you think that and in years past I think it would be true.

But I think Spiegel at this point thinks he is the man. He has been on afternoons for awhile. I dont think he will pander, or at least as much as he would have in the past. And that has the potential for some fun bad radio.

I also think Shane is going to get on Larrys nerves and I could see some tension there as well.

Good call. Larry lets his producers talk, though that was when he was solo. Speigel and Parkins was trying for more of a group effort which I think Spiegel liked and Shane probably feels empowered by.

A big problem is that Shane is objectively ear poison, so Larry would be in the right if he thought producers should STFU

he is. I don't understand why he constantly gets an open mic.

Matt is not going to be able to keep Larry's comic book shit at bay. "and today friends, I thought, it would be fun to take each Bears player and find their Marvel character self"

sure he will, as long as sir indulges matt's singing career. I think each was held at bay by their previous hosts, who were the bell cows of each show. There is now a vacuum of power so they both will let loose on their flights of fancy

Spiegel, ultimately, just wants to have a group of friends to talk to. And if it turns into good radio that's a bonus. Like Dan Patrick and his nerds, whatever that group was called.

But Shane sucks, so while it sounded like the Spiegel and Parkins afternoon show was a good hang for Spiegel, adding input from 'the crew' was bad radio.

Dustin Rhodes is worse but M&H make him less a contributor and more a mascot.

Yep. And meatpants is going to view it has his show since he has been there longer. Larry is going to think he deserves his way because he has been at the station so long. I kinda feel bad for Tanney. He is stuck in the middle of some strange personalities that are all going to have issues at times.

I could definitely see an on-air spat between these two. Spiegel knows how to dig into Lawrence's insecurities.

Didn't he once chide him for the way he pronounces his "E's"?

The pairing might lead all sports radio shows in number of marriages.

I'm calling it now, larry backs out of this job within a year. He's just too thin skinned to run this show with this crew.

Larry gives some details on his House of L podcast. He is going to be the driver of the afternoon show. He is better as a puncher. Speigs is better as a counter puncher. He was complimentary of his time with Bernsie. And of course he reminds us all that Goff is his favorite radio show host in the country
