But now the Bears and Brandon Johnson will have a site for the new stadium to host the 2032 Super Bowl.

As _______ mentioned in Top Secret Facebook Chat, this may be a new negotiation tactic in order to get a new stadium deal.

There's no other hyperlocal team like the White Sox in North American sports. The Yankees and Mets are from boroughs but hardly of them, especially not the Yankees. Closest thing would be the Islanders. I am North Side scum but I really, really don't want them to leave 35th Street.

I don't know how anyone goes to Comiskey and finds enough fault with it to suggest it should be replaced. It's easy to get to. Concessions are plentiful. You don't have to sit behind a pole (but possibly a Pole). What does it not do that it's supposed to do?

It's ok. Sox fans deserve to lose them.

Not sure why he would sell right before he kicks. If he holds it through his death, his heirs inherit with a stepped up basis. The guy's 88 years old and smokes cigars. Hang on to the asset until after he passes and the family will save a metric fuckton in capital gains taxes.

I'm not a CPA but inheritance taxes may be an issue.

Quote:
In Illinois, estates that exceed an exemption of $4 million are taxed, with rates ranging from 0.8% to 16% based on the estate's value. The executor has to file an estate tax return within nine months of the decedent's death.

Federal:
In 2024, the first $13,610,000 of an estate is exempt from taxes

Taxable Amount Estate Tax Rate What You Pay
$250,001 – $500,000 34% – $70,800 base tax – 34% on taxable amount
$500,001 – $750,000 37% – $155,800 base tax – 37% on taxable amount
$750,001 – $1 million 39% – $248,300 base tax – 39% on taxable amount
$1 million+ 40% – $345,800 base tax – 40% on taxable amount

I think this might go down as the most brutal move in pro sports history. More than a hundred years.

Ultimately, it's the Sox Subdivision that is to blame.

But we'll always have 2005 and they can't take that away from us.

Move 1: Move to Utah.

Phase 2: Gay marry his sons, add his daughter as a sister-wife.

Important!: Die

Step 4: Assets pass to your legal spouse(s) exempt from estate taxes with a stepped-up basis.

Reinsdorf had a ton of dough before he bought the White Sox. I would assume he’s got the majority of his estate in trust at this point which would allow him to escape almost all federal estate taxes. That said, if he doesn’t the federal estate tax rate is essentially 50%.

The above is why Jack Kent Cooke’s estate had to sell the Washington Commanders.

Reinsdorf built so much of his fortune on taxpayers that quite frankly, once he's not around anymore, we deserve to claw it back.

100%. Not sure if a Trust can hold ownership stake in an MLB franchise. NFL just authorized trusts to hold ownership stakes in NFL franchises in 2015 (maybe as a reaction to the Jack Kent Cooke situation?). MLB sounds like whatever you can get the other owners to agree to is gtg: https://www.sportsbusinessjournal.com/Journal/Issues/2015/05/25/Leagues-and-Governing-Bodies/NFL-trust.aspx

If bitches weren't so untrustworthy, esp when it comes to $$$, the move would be for a guy like Reinsdorf to marry someone his kids age or younger; with instructions to piecemeal hand-over the estate to the kids via various trusts and distributions after Jerry's death, escaping estate taxes and capital gains.

Reinsdorf had his childhood franchise taken from him (in what is probably the one relocation in pro sports history that is as disgraceful as what is going to happen to the Sox) and now he’s going to put this fanbase through it himself.

And to be fair, Sox fans openly wish him dead and say all sorts of crazy shit about him on the internet…I don’t necessarily blame him. It’s not his fault what happened here. It really isn’t. This is not a McCaskey situation.

the Dave Stewart thing makes it seem like it's the real deal and not just a gambit to extract $$$ out of IL taxpayers. I don't think you wanna bait-and-switch someone trying to establish the first minority owned MLB franchise.

Nashville Bulls sounds pretty good too. Nice branding opportunities with the country bars.

It kind of is. Reinsdorf was the impresario of every labor battle in the '80s and '90s, and then, even after he successfully couped a Commissioner of Baseball, lost the war and watched payroll go way up in concert with all the sabermetric developments. He didn't want to be a part of either and ran a dinosaur of an organization where all that really mattered was being competitive within the division and getting to sit around telling old baseball stories with Ed Farmer. Then he won a championship because Jose Contreras and Jon Garland decided to become unhittable, but that's beside the point. Moping around missing the Brooklyn Dodgers is at the other end of the horseshoe from hiring a search firm to find a general manager.

The White Sox were an underperforming but still competitive and respectable MLB franchise 2005-2016. Then they made the Chris Sale trade and it all fell apart. You could take every player they acquired in every trade they made 2016-2018 and it wouldn’t add up to being even close to what Chris Sale, age thirty-five, is worth today.

Fans desperately wanted it and it was simply put the wrong move. The trades looked great at the time, they all sucked in retrospect. I supported it, I was wrong.

He’s been an owner for over four decades. They’ve been to the playoffs 7 times. They made the playoffs twice in the 12 year window you cited while finishing 4th or 5th in the division 5 times.

Outside of 2005 - 2005 - they’ve won zero playoff series under his ownership. Their marquee free agent signing over his tenure is fucking Andrew Benitendi.

People talk shit about him online because he’s a giant piece of shit.

Yeah and the last eight years of that are because he acquiesced to fan pressure to trade a Hall of Famer and a bunch of other good players for genuinely nothing.
