It's embarrassing for a lifelong Sox fan to see Hahn and not pummel him.

Yeah...Neither one of you would do that. .

Just ran into him outside of my office and we chatted for a few minutes.

Looks great and is enjoying the year off.

Did you at least throw your car keys at him with disdain, or simply hand them over?

I thanked him for doing his best to try and bring a World Series. He was very open when I asked him a few questions about certain players. I wouldn’t post them here publicly.

Maybe not, but it would have crossed my mind. So MANY expectations after 2020. There's no way you could have convinced me it would come to this.

My question is why he didn't draw a red line on his choice for manager. Had he resigned over it, he'd get a lot more respect. He kissed Old Man Potter's feet. This isn't something said in hindsight and I'm not the only person who said it then.

Suppose he got his pick of managers, would it have changed anything? His high flying prospects crashed, that was the problem. I don't necessarily blame him for that, they were all well regarded when he acquired them. However, it's a results oriented business and someone has to answer for failure.

Doesn't matter. Owner isn't a GM who gets to call up his buddy. It sends a horrible message and sends ripples through what left of the organization. And THEN when the buddy shows up, he shits his pants and falls asleep. He gets woke up by the fans to tell him he needs to pinch run.

We’re still burning a hole in the Machado money. I suspect that cash will still be in Jerry’s partners’ bank accounts for another couple few years.

Nobody demanded an 80yr old open the WS window. No idea if Hinch can fix a culture that seemed to tell people it’s ok to be bad and injured. Idk, maybe expecting something from people makes a difference. What I do know is that there’s a big cross-section of people who tell me that TLR did a good job and those that tell me nothing could’ve changed the trajectory of the Sox failures.

I’m completely ignorant of the lower level talent development stuff. What I see now is the guy Hahn had in charge of player development putting together one of the worst franchises in the history of the sport.

People just accept this shit like everything is bad luck. It’s management failure.

If Hahn gets his pick of managers, he's still talking to Seacrest in the fall of 2024 about his year off.

He didn't get his pick of managers and he should have quit. He didn't quit because he's a Sox bootlicking organizational dipshit. It all happened because it's meant to happen.

The rebuild was at its core just fan service. They never should’ve dealt Chris Sale but fans desperately wanted it. Had he not made that trade the whole thing probably goes a different way.

But when have the White Sox ever done anything to serve their fans? Baseball-side, not inventing $15 "s'mores churros" or whatever. It was a devastating trade, we see that now, but I don't think it was to give the people what they wanted.

He offered to resign months before he was fired. When I see him again, I'll ask him if it coincided with LaRussa coming onboard. I told him about my interaction with Getz last year. His face said he was surprised by Getz sticking up for him, but he said he had given him his start, and that was to be expected.

I asked him if Luis Robert had a phlegmatic temperament, or if he just played like he didn't give a shit. He said he cares a lot.

I keep repeating this but it falls on deaf ears. He lost his hand that day or that period of time. That reverberates. It's not minor that the GM turned into a mere bureaucrat. Whether the future changes or not is beside the point. I can't prove something changes but I can prove it had no shot at change.

Hippocrates suggests that there are four fundamental personality types, sanguine (pleasure-‐seeking and sociable), choleric (ambitious and leader-‐like), melancholic (analytical and literal), and phlegmatic (relaxed and thoughtful). We all have qualities from all 4 temperaments.

I wish I had knowledge of this book when our kids were younger.

Each of his three big trades were logical moves that were applauded across baseball. I always hated the idea of trading a unique piece like Sale just on principal. It sucks that they didn't scout mental makeup on Kopech or Moncada, but I just don't agree with trading Sale under any circumstances. Better scouting gets you Devers instead of Moncada but I don't know if that changes things.

Those offers for Quintana and Eaton ended up great, just not for the Sox.

His drafts were terrible. When some of the trade items failed, he had nothing with which to back them up. It didn't help that Tim Anderson went from winning a batting title to being terrible in a matter of a couple of years during his 20s.

I'd say Hahn's biggest sins were drafting and giving a series of bad contracts to bad players as an aggregate in place of giving one big contract to a great player

I'm pretty confident that he wouldn't ask for Yoan Moncada again.

I’m not even sure if it was the drafting or the development that was the problem. Guys would get worse in the Sox minor league system as time went by.

Maybe.

What would have changed? With a different manager, I can guarantee that him and Seacrest are not talking about intentional walks issued on a 1-2 count.

In hindsight, of course not. However, at the time, I want to say that he was the number one prospect in baseball, and if he wasn't, he was definitely in the top 5.

It has to be both. Even if you don't know what you're doing, you should occasionally draft a good position player by dumb luck.
