He went to Texas to be Bochy's manager in waiting. I guess Bochy told him he's not planning on retiring anytime soon. Venable can do 3 years here and then move into a AGM role somewhere if he doesn't find another gig.

I get Jeff Torborg vibes from this hire, without the prospect pipeline that those teams had.

The White Sox are getting positive reviews for hiring him. I don't know much about him, but I am pretty confident he'll look like an idiot if the talent doesn't improve.
