Costas hosted it from 1988 to 1994...not that short of a run.

costas' hosting of nbc's later, lasted longer than arsenio.

to me, the show was too late and yes, too short. as in, should have been 1 hr and not 30 mins. don't believe most who are worth interviewing want to give 1hr of their day. i mentioned audrey meadows, believe she gave 1hr to the show, did two episodes. costas' enthusiasm for alice kramden must have inspired tom cruise for oprah.

He was great in the 80s and early 90s.

Then after the strike he became insufferable.

But he rebounded in the 2000s to being acceptable again and very good. But a few years before this year he was clearly rooting for the Yankees on some of those broadcasts.

But I enjoyed him this year. I know many ppl did not. Maybe because I'm old and I like that hokey type of baseball announcer who tells me stories from 1924.

Wasn't it kind of like the old Cavett show? 1:30 in the morning was a weird place to put that, but I don't know where else they could have.

Most of the names have been mentioned already:
Vin Scully for Baseball
Pat Summerall for NFL (in fairness, though, he held on way too long and had some dreadful years at the end).
Marv Albert for Basketball (Let the record show, I originally said Marv Levy which makes me a moron  )
Keith Jackson - yeah, he was College Football
Doc Emrick for NHL.
Al Michaels belongs in the team photo.

Maybe not the best, but I did always like Jon Miller for Sunday night baseball.

Costas had a long career and always struck me as "forgettable". That Pedro Strop clip posted by KD was priceless...the sports world needs more of that
