Do Ben Johnson and Robert Saleh know each other or get along? I don’t know that Saleh will get another HC job so if they paired him with an offensive minded HC I would be on board with that.

Kingsbury.

I'd prefer Johnson but the Cowboys will give him $12 million a year.

I believe I heard he turned down nearly $20M a year this offseason.

If I had to bet I’d say Kingsbury.. they interviewed him already, Caleb has a relationship with him, he’s got HC experience, and he’s doing well with Daniels.

I’m not saying he’s my choice, but if I were betting I’d bet on him.

A few things seem evident as we reach midseason.

Poles is a terrible judge of offensive coaching talent, his previous OC just got launched and people openly mocking his current guy, would seem this limited skill set impacts the entire offensive coaching staff.

Poles does not value offensive lineman, he has chosen to start the season with subpar talent on the offensive line for several seasons, Poles appears to feel the WR's and DB's are the core of a football team, just look at how he uses his draft capital and FA paper.

However, the overriding factor is George, and he obviously is terrified of alpha male type guys that might actually swear during practice. This would seem to dramatically limit his coaching pool, the franchise a red ass HC that will disrupt the country club practice atmosphere at Halas Hall, but there is no way George is gonna hire a guy like that to coach his team.

Hard Knocks showed the Bears to be a silly organization that values appearance rather than accomplishment, hence you have the "Leadership Council", picking the coaching candidates, and the goofy practice of having your "leaders" read books on leadership and then having said books prominently displayed in the background when they appear on camera at Halas Hall.

That's a good question.

Eberfluss biggest knock is that he's a below average game manager. But he hasn't been a bad defensive coordinator.

I can't see the Bears changing Fluss yet. They'll sacrifice and scapegoat Waldron first.

But I'd put Nick Saban on the wish list for HC. We'd be an immediate contender if we made that move.

No. New coach in 25.
Poles fired after 25. New gm must keep coach hired in 25 for a year.

That is how the Bears do things.

Absolutely should be if they win fewer than 7 and Williams doesn’t greatly improve. The Texans and Commanders are examples of what can be done in a short period of time.

That’s kind of what I’m getting at.

This staggered coach/GM/QB thing needs a hard reboot and this organization isn’t going to let that happen.

Most likely outcome is they fire Flus and hire Ron Rivera or something.

Saban is used to coaching teams with more talent.

Another issue the Bears may have in grabbing the best candidate is the pressure that will immediately be placed on whoever steps in. They won’t be stepping into year 1 of a rebuild, they’ll be stepping into year 4. A Ben Johnson or Kingsbury might not want that immediate pressure.

It’s just another reason this should have been reset last year with a new coach and new QB. Poles is a fraud the more I continue to reflect on it. He’s easily as big of a problem as anyone else in this organization.

I've though since about game 2 that Poles did not expect to fully compete this season. This is further proof.

The Bears have had to payoff almost all of their 6 most recent coaches.

They will be doing it again at seasons end.

Him or Ben Johnson....

Dallas may pay one of them more than the Bears are willing offer, but I'm not sure that's likely either.

Cowboys are a mess. I don't think that's an attractive team in general. Dak may be on wrong side of his career, Lamb is a star, but no running game and a bad OL....basically a very limited offense and the defense has underperformed also.

I still think the Bears will be an attractive team even if they finish 7-10 again. Some OC will want to work with Caleb and the weapons here and they have 3 picks in the first 45-50 or so to address issues on the DL/OL.

I said at the time that Hard Knocks was a fucking curse. All of this rah, rah, team bonding shit and oh so nice stories about great character of the Bear's players and coaches was/is a fucking farce. Eberflush should have been canned before the draft and they never should have drafted Williams.
