I’m sure they will eventually work out a deal, but it may be for nearly free. Really no negotiation position and not much compelling current content. Bulls are average to below. Not many care about the Blackhawks and they are still a few years away. I did watch some of the Bulls broadcast and it is pitifully horrendous. Jason Goff offers zero and it appears he knows it. He must be near a personal collapse as his career continues to spiral after he has made one terrible decision after another. He looks beaten down and has no energy. Kendall Gill knows basketball and is good technically, but not a broadcaster. Stacy King is just mailing it in at this point. He does not prepare and offers no intelligent commentary. I feel bad for Amin. He is smart and a professional.

This is kind of a backdoor punishment for owners that actively tank, or guys like Reinsdorf who are happy to collect the national TV money, but have no interest in building a winning organization.

Guess it turns out that it is really hard to sell a piss poor product.

Jerry appears to have been playing a game for decades, and why not it worked, TV money seemed to be endless, he could pocket tons of money each year, he seems to be well aware of how to play the system.

The Hawks and Bears are the ultimate third generation mom and pop shops, run by clueless and lazy grandkids who were too dumb to hire the right GM's to develop a winning product.

How long would the local teams stay in business if the national TV money ended today and they were forced to compete on a level playing field with many of the far more competent ownership groups?

Will the Blackhawks still be available on 62.2? It's nice to watch them when I remember but I'm not paying 360 for that shit show.

Hell yeah I love to "consume content."

$360 for three god-awful teams! Hey, you know how you paid a whole-ass cable bill to watch sports among like 1000 other channels? What if you stopped giving that money to 999 of those channels and gave all of it to us?

I can't find the 'report' from a few weeks ago , but I think this confirms Laurence's sources were accurate?

Yeah, pretty much bang-on. The only thing I don't see verified here is that it will "feel different." It looks like they're using the same vendor that the Panthers and UHC are using for their DTCs.

It's almost like a shared pool of funds going to the most popular channels in larger numbers but keeping the smaller channels operating was better than the a la carte dream that people had where the content you like cost 40 cents a year and you could pick and choose only things you are watching at the exact time.

I am happy to see this bypassing the required have a cable / directv subscription, but I hope they get a real lesson in Supply and Demand.
Maybe some die-hards will fork over the money, but I'm not interested in that kind of investment for garbage teams. I feel that MANY others will share that opinion.

Are there different levels of subscription? I saw something in that release that meant "full subscription".

Hard to read, but was that $29.99 per month? Seems very expensive even if you did like the teams.

Can you subscribe from out of market?

I don't care about the Bulls, but it's insane that out of market I can get most of the White Sox and Blackhawks games for a grand total of $275/year, plus get all of the rest of the MLB and ESPN+ content, plus not have to listen to that idiot Shiffren do the TV because I can put on the other team's feed.

Why the hell should in-market cost more than out of market?

I'm guessing the answer is Reinsdorf.

$30 for all three teams; the low, low price of $19.99 for one team.

Well, "the market" is Illinois minus the Metro-East, plus Indiana, Iowa, and the Milwaukee TV market (except for the Bulls). But outside of that, no. This is strictly for people in the teams' territories. Lucky us.

Six hours a day of David Haugh don't pay for themselves.

I'm guessing the answer is Reinsdorf.

But this is true in a lot of places. Hell, in England they get blacked out of 1/3 of their Premier League games for Dollar Bill Wirtz reasons about the sanctity of crowds at 3pm kickoffs, and they have to pay more for streaming the rest of the matches than we do. (Which is why a lot of people in the UK have a Fire Stick and stream Peacock over a VPN)

My sense is that no one under the age of 30 pays for anything they watch...that is not me...however I gave up watching the Cubs simply because of Marquis, and I had been watching them religiously since about 1972...and do not miss them

That is how I am about the Bears. I am not paying for Sunday ticket or anything like that, and since I live in an NFC South market the Bears are never on TV here unless it is a national game. Reducing my angst about those fuck ups has been a surprise blessing.

I wouldn’t pay $20 a month for season tickets to the 2025 white sox.

Right? Not watching the Cubs has been a boon to my mental health, be that what it may.

I'm curious about the effects to advertising...I guess a lot of that gets washed away with huge TV monies...but how long is that sustainable without viewers?

If I'm Ford, Gieco or Abt TV, how much money am I sinking into the Bulls or Hawks Broadcast right now?

i have to believe there is a huge number of disgruntled soccer fans out there that are cursing us for taking over programming so much. back during the days we only had the Fox Soccer Channel and GOLTV, they were re-broadcasting from sky sports many times. now it's completely reversed in watching habits.

I gave up making the Bears appointment television somewhere around 2007. Unless they're playing in prime time, I only watch about a quarter of each game. It's freed up my Sundays and I love it.

A lot of the commercials on Hawks games this year are like, public service announcements by CHSN for ice cream places in Auburn Gresham to show off how local they are. Not exactly Kane and Toews in Chevy ads every break anymore.

I suspect they’ll go the way of 670 and all ads will be for gambling, boner pills or gambling on boner pills.

The commercial with JR and the italian restaurant owner where they sit there eating food off each other's plate is amazing. I stop fast forwarding and watch it whenever I see it.
