it seems basically the same to me pre and post the Musk purchase.

I assume the people who are howling that it is suddenly terrible dislike the fact that I can now go on there and tell the truth about a man being a man without being reprimanded or having my account shut down.

People aren't fleeing to Bluesky because Musk has prevented them from expressing their thoughts. They're fleeing because people with opposing viewpoints are now allowed to express theirs.

you would say that if you were ignorant and living in an echo chamber, curious...

anyway, I can't argue with you on a certain level if you think there are equally valid "opposing viewpoints" on such nuanced topics like "do certain human beings deserve the right to exist?". Or, like, think The Babylon Bee is funny.

but arguing on an online platform level, Twitter is certainly worse under Musk, objectively. For one thing it just doesn't work as well. Maybe Musk is a business genius who correctly assuming that firing a ton of engineers didn't matter because the site would stay up. That's turned out to be true, but it's way more buggy and bot/scam-filled to become not just unpleasant but unusable.

And then for content, it's not really political censorship but the inverse: amplification of verified users. The site has bias towards them and put them higher in replies, more reach on links (certain domains - Substack for one - are throttled), taking over the 'for you' tab. It just so happens that the people dumb and/or hateful enough to pay for Twitter also are right-leaning

Well if they’re all over at Truth Social then why is Twitter such a “hellscape“ that liberals have to leave?

 BECAUSE MUSK!

so on one hand you're revealing you really don't know what you're talking about. But on a positive note, being ignorant of what's going on with Twitter is, overall, a good thing. Keep that precious ignorance, don't let FOMO get you too curious about BlueSky!

And before I'm accused of being obsessed with BlueSky, I'm not. I'm obsessed with Dan Bernstein

Twitter has been an objectively worse platform since Musk took it over. Not because anyone left, because they didn't leave; they're too addicted. It's just a crappier user experience. A lot of this is AI bots, or Indians who may as well be AI bots. Read the replies to this tweet that's been making the rounds:

Hundreds of accounts named "Rajesh Gupta" regurgitating the tweet through ChatGPT. "AJ chooses not to watch the Borat film, showcasing his depth. This delves into why The Sopranos and Borat were classic content." Dead Internet Theory was bleak enough when you imagined a server farm doing all the talking. But no, much like the Amazon stores with no checkouts, it's just an elaborate system of typing Indians.

Still, every time some group tries to break away from Twitter, it fails, because the whole point of Twitter is not to hang out online with your friends. That's what forums are for. Twitter is for antagonizing people and getting the dopamine rush of upsetting some people and having other people come to your defense. When you and your like-minded compatriots try to run off and have your own little version of Twitter where no one can bother you, it inevitably fails, like Gab and Truth Social on the right. This is the fourth or fifth whack at making "federated" microblogging happen, and it never happens, because everyone gets bored without their enemies around and then they just end up banning each other. The immune system turns on itself.

It's also to promote your 'brand', so if BlueSky is not as popular and you're just preaching to the choir, it's still better than Twitter as it was no longer driving traffic anymore anyway

I'm pretty sure your existence isn't terminated when I call you a man even though you claim to be a woman. You still exist. I'm just calling you what you actually are.

It's not really funny but it's funnier than The Onion or Jimmy Kimmel or Steven Colbert.

I don't notice any difference. But if you do and you're so upset about it, go to Bluesky. I'm sure no one cares if you do.

Maybe you can mute mods at Bluesky, I'd recommend checking it out.

I don’t think anything involving Twitter could be worse than when it was elevated by media outlets as some sort of relevant source of news. Even a ton of breaking news headlines and stories wound up being debunked or shown as half-wrong when it was propped up as “part of MY JOB”. Its yahoo comments section level; while some people were able to use it to its full potential of memes, its popularity coincided with the absolute root sucking of our collective sense of humor. That’s when silence AND words somehow became “violent”. It’s brought out more narcissism and borderline personality disorder than it has anything meaningful.

The jumps to Truth or Bluesky are just droppings off the Twitter universe. Its purpose remains the same: to be self-indulgent.

I don't know how you have your account set up, but nothing like that comes through my feed. I do keep getting an ad that I can't get rid of. I'm not even sure what it's for but it features a fat black woman in a brown bodysuit. I've clicked on "I don't like this ad" multiple times and it still is served to me constantly.

Dan is the biggest phoney. If he really believed what he did he wouldn't let his son do a podcast using the 670 brand and he would delete his X account forever. But no, he knows X is where the traffic is. Most of these idiots will be back in two weeks.

I just don't get these people. I gotta believe Dan's dad was a hardcore racist and that's why he's like this.
