He played great as a starter last year but I think he is a one year wonder. Just my opinion. I think you are like to see 10 or 11 wins instead of 20. Hendry has never known when to cut ties with a guy. He's holds onto guys until they prove they suck. He would have been better off signing Wood.

Assuming similar offensive statistics for the Cubs, Demp is gonna do just fine as a starter. You can go ahead and count on that 14 games, maybe even more. And the Cubs pay their 14 game guys very well.

Call me surprised if Dempster puts up the kind of numbers that he did last season ever again. I think he's more likely to have an ERA around where Ted Lilly has been, around 4.00.

The Cubs would be much better suited to let Dempster walk and do whatever they need to get Peavy on the Northside. Peavy is proven. Dempster is not fullproof.

 I'm almost in 100% agreement with Frank on a Cubs issue. I'd rather have Peavy than Dempster. I think Ryan was a one-year wonder. I hope I'm wrong (wouldn't be the first time). But I also didn't want to see the Cubs sell the farm in order to get Peavy.

You can call me crazy, but if Peavy is out of the picture, I'd like the Cubs to take the one-year flyer on Randy Johnson. This way you have Marshall and Marquis to fill in for Harden and Johnson when they need rest.

Would be an interesting wager to consider with Dempster vs keeping Wood.

Wood more than 30 saves vs Dempster more than 14 W's.

All would depend on who Wood goes to but I may go with Dempster
assuming the Cubs get another bat or two.

I'm very happy to see Dempster back. Peavy has been great, but with 2 stints on the DL in each of the past 2 seasons, I think it would be a risky proposition to trade for him. Plus, I feel like getting a real leadoff hitter is a priority and they will need to use assets that would be required to obtain Peavy, to get Roberts, or someone else that can be a legit leadoff hitter. That is, unless they go after Furcal and move Theriot to 2nd base or trade him. Dempster was the most consistent starter the Cubs had in 2008. He works hard to be in top condition and thus gives himself the best chance to succeed. I like his professional attitude and work ethic. Now we just have to get him to perform in the playoffs, more like he did in the regular season....
