Can't say I've ever eaten there (do they even have an app?) but if the food was any good at all, private equity will make sure that doesn't continue.

It’s good. It won’t be for much longer. RIP.

Last time I had it about a year or two ago, it was a very wet sandwich. Like they covered it in "wet sauce" or something. Not to say it was bad. Jimmy John's isn't bad either, but I've never gone there and said "I'm glad I went to Jimmy John's. That was a good choice."

Maybe I am wrong but it seems all the chain sub places are interchangeable.

I miss the hot grinders one could order for delivery in Champaign back in the day.

It's funny the one thing that people think New Jersey does well is sandwiches. You attach Jersey to anything else in the world and people think it sucks. Do it for a sandwich and people are like "Oh, that's gotta be good".

I get that money doesn’t mean anything anymore, but eight billion dollars seems like a lot just for a franchise business that sells cold cut sandwiches and cheesesteaks. They must do well on catering, or somehow be positioned for a bust in the food delivery market that could come when all the delivery drivers get sent back to Nicaragua.

I can never figure this shit out. I just repeat the line from the movie that one guy from The Office says like “you’re not a hamburger business, you’re a real estate business” and that seems pretty insightful.

Well if you got it “Mike’s Way”, it’s doused in vinegar and oil. I only do that for the Italian or some combo sandwich.

It started going downhill when they got rid of Tastycake treats. It’s still decent but I’m glad I have a few local delis around me so it’s not my only option.

I think its the best of the sub chains. The cheesesteak is solid enough in a place like chicago where it is a rarity. However, in a place like chicago, the cold sandwiches are easily outdone by one of the numerous locals shops.

I do agree with the comment that the sandwiches seem wet. A cold sub shouldn't be messy. I like their red pepper spread but they lay it on very thick.

Wetness is largely user choice. It’s controllable; nobody is getting your sandwich all moist without consent.

Plus, that's kind of the way that east coast subs are supposed to be instead of the midwestern mayo bomb.

I mean, you can get a good Italian sub in Chicagoland without it being overly sodden. I'm a big fan of Capri Deli up at Rand and Dundee.

Frankie’s in Oak Brook is outstanding, and always crowded.

Chicago is a great food city too so you'll be able to buck the trend on some Midwestern disappointment. You go to Peoria and Jersey Mike's is probably your best bet.

Why does a place like Subway exist? Who actually orders food from there and enjoys eating it?

Yeah that sounds right. I had Monical's in my head but that seemed wrong. I think they were pizza.

I see Blimpie's is still around. What I remember may have been some version of this. But it had to have had way more than the 520 calories their info sheet is claiming

Of all the chain sammich shops, Jersey Mike's is my favorite. If you get it "Mike's Way" yes, it's a wet mess...I don't care for all that.

What they do have is the Cherry Pepper relish....Forget the mayo, vinegar, and oil....the relish gives it just enough spread without getting messy. Add on the oregano and it's a great sammich.

Great call on the TastyKakes....those are available here in FL and had not seem them in many years when I used to work in Glenview and frequented the Golf Rd Jersey Mikes.

and yes....the hot sammiches at Jersey Mike's are good, as well. It's a shame PE will royall fuck this up.

It’s all the same shit. Whatever slop Sysco or US Foods drops off that day is what you get, this goes for your your hyper local 4.8 stars on Google “oh man you just gotta try it” right down your dingy shithole Subway and everything in between.

A few exceptions, sure…but genuinely you’re just paying to not have to do it yourself and not clean up.

That’s what’s so funny about Brick saying Jersey Mikes is the best thing you’ll find in Peoria. Lmao, it’s the same food as in Chicago! Sysco isn’t prioritizing better food anywhere, it’s all just lowest bidder junk. Everything after that is branding and packaging.

Are you making an "All restaurants are the same" argument? Are you bigfan?

I didn’t know that was a big fan take. It’s objectively correct either way.

His was "All breakfast is the same" but you kind of took it to be that the top steakhouse in Chicago is the same as Subway because they all get the stuff from Sysco.

I thought Subway has some in-house supplier that makes sure all their meats are just artificially flavored turkey so that they're halal. And we all know about the yoga mat bread.

Their roast beef always had that comforting blue iridescent sheen to it.

What do you think you’re really paying for when you got out to a restaurant? And what incentive does any restaurant run as a business have to not feed you the cheapest, lowest quality, most processed food they can?

I’ve never seen a Subway branded truck. Maybe they get it US mail?

I know the burger chains, especially the shitty ones, do use their own beef. That’s where the “fresh never frozen” line comes from, the shit is so foul and low quality that isn’t not worth the energy costs of freezing it. The addicts who eat at these places don’t care either, they are completely undiscerning.
