Three losses ought to be but they have quality wins on their resume and Indiana doesn’t.

Looks to me like Indiana is 11th, at worst. Grandma's Kindergarden rules still apply. Big 10 would throw a shit fit if they were bypassed.

I watched a little of the Alabama postgame Saturday, and ESPN is already doing it. Paraphrasing, but Fowler said "All these 3 loss teams just shows you how deep and talented the SEC is". His next thought was, "The Big 12 has four 9-2 teams right now, they are a one bid league".

Also, when people talk about the overall records of SEC teams, they never mention that the league only plays 8 conference games. That's 8 guaranteed losses the league doesn't have, compared to the other conferences.

The great Big 10 isn’t great but 2 teams either.

and as long as I'm ranting..... Boise St being #4, and the Big 12 champ #12.

A close loss to Oregon is doing a whole lot of heavy lifting for Boise. Only see one common opponent with Boise and the top Big 12 teams, and that's Wyoming.

Boise St won 17-13
ASU won 48-7
BYU won 34-14

I think the committee would accept any excuse it could to leave Indiana out but reality is there is truly no excuse to accept a three-loss SEC team (all with losses to unranked opponents) over a one-loss IU (only loss on the road to #2 team in the country).

Now they’ll have to placate the SEC by having the same number of teams from that conference as the B1G. But can you really leave out the second place ACC team to let in what could possibly be a four-loss fourth place SEC team (or worse yet, Missouri)? Seems unfair, but it would also be kinda dumb to have four teams from the B1G and only three from the SEC.

The next two weeks in the SEC will drive the whole 3 loss team argument.

I have zero doubt the committee wants UGA there. If they don’t win the conference championship, that’s a 3 loss team. Once you open the door for them, there’s a bunch of others in that 3 loss blob with decent arguments. You could potentially have A&M, Texas and Tennessee all in before you start looking at UGA and the others.

You are going to see the SEC make championship week all about the fact that Indiana paid Louisville $1 million to not play this year and they scheduled a team that even Purdue would have beaten. Normally, you get the "You can only control a small part of your schedule" but the Louisville buyout looks terrible in this context.

I hope it doesn't work though. An 11-1 Big Ten team deserves to make the playoff.

Yeah but IU beat Nebraska, Michigan and Washington anyways. It’s not like Louisville is some powerhouse at 7-4. I haven’t seen that argument made anywhere.

All three of those teams are likely finishing 6-6. Louisville would be their best win. It certainly would be a better win than a bad FCS team.

It's going to come up next week. Losing to OSU opened up the door to question IU's schedule. When they were undefeated you can't really say anything.

UGA pulls it out. Insane.

How many times did the announcers say this win would make them a lock for the CFP? Talking points out that the SEC championship confirmed doesn’t matter.

Next week when Georgia is losing Tessitore will say they have to win to BE SURE they make the playoffs.

But not with a loss tonight and next week. Now, they can lose next week and be in.

LOL. Losing is not punitive with the 12 team playoff…..

More likely you’ll have Herbstreit explaining why a 3 loss A&M team belongs in the playoff.

Georgia just went through a meat grinder. They have to turn around and play a game in 7 days. Just forfeit the SEC title and be fully rested for the playoffs.

Just like Oregon, strategically forfeit vs Washington. Don’t get key players hurt.

Oh that will happen also. Probably will quickly lead to serious media talk of how this year means we MUST have a 32 team playoff. I mean Minnesota deserves a shot at the playoffs!!!
