Vrabel wouldn’t be the worst choice, but Johnson should be their top choice imo

But of course that also depends on who else becomes available.. Shanahan in that scenario becomes my 1st choice by a wide margin. You do everything in your power to get him if he’s available.

If not? Ben Johnson

Sure, let's hire another "great relationship" HC who will bring in either an OC who is currently out of football because of his horrible offenses since Tom Brady or the OC of an offense arguably worse over the course of this season than the Bears. Such a crew will certainly maximize the football potential of Caleb Williams.

Kevin O'Connell hired about 3 weeks after Eberflus.
Bears didn't interview O'Connell..and the beat goes on...

One name I haven't heard mentioned that I would be interested in interviewing is Curt Cignetti

Great relationship with Ryan Poles? Cross him off, then, since Car Wash Genius is going to fire him.

Golden Jet wants one of the young offensive coaches and bring in Chico as the defensive coordinator. He also wants Lance Briggs on the staff because he brings da fire and passion. And has great insight and wants to coach them up.

i'd be OK with this i think. The nice thing is McDaniels isnt going to leave for a HC job (unless it's college). From my recollection he was a decent OC tough to judge given he coached brady for most of his time in NE, but i think he had a decent year with Mac Jones before taking the LV job

Derek Carr threw for 4800 yards and Hunter Renfrow had a 1000+ yard season in 2021, then in comes not just Josh McDaniels/Mick Lombardi, but Davonte Adams as well, and Carr regresses to 3500 yards and the offense is outside the top 10, then the next year is near the bottom of the league. Sure McDaniels was the HC and had other responsibilities so he wasn't purely the OC, but he was the offensive playcaller.

Isn't there a chance that Ben Johnson could be Matt Nagy 2.0?

I mean, not if someone else hired him, but if the Bears do?

Nagy ran Andy Reid’s offense and wasn’t the actual play caller in KC.. what you see in Detroit offensively is all Ben Johnson.

That’s the difference.

Doesn’t mean he can’t fail as an HC, but he knows how to put together his own offense and coach it up. Nagy was fucking clueless there.

It's not going to matter until there is a competent owner. They need to what the Baltimore Orioles did before Peter Angelos died: sell a 10% stake in the club with an option to buy another 80% within a year of Ginny's death.

6-18 in last 24 games sounds like a great idea.

I was amazed at the time how easily everyone glossed over the fact nagy lacked actual OC experience.

Josh McDaniels and Caleb Williams is genuinely the worst pairing I can think of.

It’s certainly in the team photo.

While I want to see how Johnson deals with some adversity in his offense now that Monty is down.. the more and more time I spend with this I feel like taking a swing at Ben Johnson is the right call out of who’s currently available.

He completely designs and runs that offense, he’s clearly brilliant in the modern game as a play caller and a guy who knows how to use the talent he has. There’s still a question mark around how he’ll be as an HC.. but there are no questions about the things we do know that he does.

So again, unless someone like Shanahan becomes available (it feels less and less likely he will).. they need to make Ben Johnson the top priority.

Nobody wants to accept responsibility for Caleb Williams. A mediocre candidate will just bear that burden if it means he can wear the title, but a good candidate will just go somewhere else.

The only way a quality candidate comes is if he is given explicit control over the starting lineup and fifty-three man roster, particularly the starting quarterback. Everything I’ve seen from the Bears makes me believe this a non-negotiable with George and Kevin, that they have a vision for the Bears redefining masculinity with a gay black quarterback and would rather lose for five years than give up on that dream.

So lower your expectations significantly, nobody is exciting about taking a job to be a fall guy for the worst first overall pick since JaMarcus Russell. Though yeah they will get somebody who will take the job.

Jamarcus Russell: 2 touchdowns as a rookie.
Caleb Williams: 0 touchdowns as a rookie*.

*-taking away the 17 touchdowns he has this year because the team was losing, or winning, or they happened in the second half.

He was enshrined into the HawaiiYou HOF after they/them's fourth game.

Mahomie throws a lot of picks and it doesn't really matter. Because he takes chances down field. All game. Not some garbage drives in the second half after the offense has been shut out for the first half and only gained 3 yards (and a cloud of dust).

I think that there is no evidence that Williams and Fields ceiling realistically is that both have a chance to be a good not great quarterback if a coach can put a decent team in front of them. I think that Pittsburgh kind of proved that in the six game Fields had. I think Williams has that chance also. But neither of these guys have the "IT" factor to be a Patrick Mahomes, Tom Brady, Manning, Elway, Montana, etc., legendary QB stars. Its one thing if foolish fans like we are duped by media hype and college stats because none of us really know shit about what it takes to put a great team together but team management and owners by definition have to and obviously THE BEARS DO NOT KNOW SHIT ABOUT ANY OF THAT.
