I wonder how many of these guys want that level of control vs. just finding comfort with a GM they understand views the game similarly.

If I were a Johnson, I’d sit down with Poles and try to discern why he sucks at developing the lines. If that answer is that Poles is indeed living vicariously through backup-level NFL talent, I’m off to Jacksonville. No state income tax. Great governance.

If Poles can show some recognition that he needs to start acquiring good linemen who are good, maybe it doesn’t bother me as much if he stays.

Pole's needs to go its obvious to any non brain dead human. Go enjoy your franchise punter he/they selected in the foirth round. Most good punter's are undrafted and this dumb ass spent a high selection on one. Then he/they drafted a tackle who spent his/there time blocking economists and doctors from brown and Harvard. And this is the guy your fine with. Your about as savvy as LGBTQ Time Guy.

I might rather have Cunningham ascend and kick Poles out.

If he’s not counter programming that narrative within a day he needs to be fired.

I didn't catch that much of it but apprently Johnson is interested but only with a lot of influence on draft etc.
Poles obviously is not in favor of that.

Falls in line with my rhought that he wouldn't want the job if Poles was here.
Apparently he would take it with promise of a lot of influence.

Any HC will openly challenge the way Poles evaluates lineman and will laugh at his imaginary crystal ball he uses that told him to draft project guys like Velus Jones, Dominique Robinson, Amegadjie, and to draft a punter in the 4th round.

Even the NFL's reigning village idiot George must realize that a top HC is going to want to have control over his roster, especially when taking over a roster as poorly constructed as the one he will inherit from Ryan Poles.

The most Bears like outcome is that they whiff on the top candidates and then panic and settle on a guy that is just happy to take the job and will be a nice guy that does not swear.

Color me stupid but why wouldn't a GM want his HC to have BIG voice on who is drafted? Otherwise you are asking a coach to get guys to perform that he doesn't necessarily want. I think we have seen this act MANY times.

‘Smartest guy in the room’ types don’t like to be told anything different than what they believe. It’s an incredibly stupid attitude especially in today’s NFL where everything is so specifically system driven. You almost need the coach to help pick players so they can run their system properly and no one is going to understand the system better than the guy who creates it and runs it.

It’s so frustrating that after 3 years of failure and drafting like shit this organization needs to see several more years of that same shit to say ‘yeah this guy ain’t it’. Why does it take them so damn long to know it’s bad..?

Some lady on the score this morning was all in for Ben Johnson. The tie with Poles at BC one point of hers.

I think he is a strong candidate in the mix. I wouldn't be all in when a guy like Vrabel is sitting there.

What is it about Vrabel that convinces you he could be the right option for Williams?

I'd like two jobs if I was him too. Get the best offer from both.

The rumor is McDaniels is his guy at the next stop.. I’m not sure thats a ‘spectacular’ pick tbh. Tho I will point out Josh did well with Mac Jones so maybe McDaniels is one of those ‘coordinator’ only guys

Pretty much. It’s ‘lying’ season right now. The Bears and Jags have always been the two rumors with Ben tho

With Belichick off to college and the threat of him coaching against the Patriots neutralized, I think Kraft will feel like he has to get the band back together and bring Vrabel/McDaniels back in. He'll want to take the credit for rescuing the notoriously awful Belichick tree. Whether it works, anyone's guess (probably not).

If nothing else, someone should put Mark Brunell on the spot here.

Well, good call a year later. I wanted Harbaugh around this time myself, but Ben a year later works too
