It has no relevance as to whether Justin Fields will sign to be someone's starting QB next season. A point that none of you have dared to refute it should be noted.

Russell Wilson didn't start at the end of last season. I guess that negates his being a starting QB this season huh?

The question isn’t whether he will be some teams starter for game 1 as that is a likely possibility; it’s whether he’ll be replaced during the season due to a lack of production. For the record, I hope he does well since that would aggravate the shit out of most of the Bears fans on here.

Which only contradicts your earlier point. If you aren't refuting the point about Justin Fields signing to be another team's starting QB, then what is it that you are actually doing here?

And if you do believe that you are refuting it, then put the bread up to show that you actually believe it. Deal?

What I’m doing is saying you’re arguing that a guy who was a backup wasn’t actually a backup because he might one day start even though he was most recently a backup.

The problem with your numerous responses is that none of them ever seems to address the essential point being made by me. Which is that he'll be signed as a starting QB in about 2-3 months. Do you disagree with this assertion?

I said I could see him signing for a bad team a long time ago.

You argued with that too.

Unless it's the Browns, who already have a starting QB but he is going to miss the season, Fields is going to sign with a team that drafts a rookie and Fields is insurance in case that QB isn't ready to start the first game. There is no team in the league that is signing Fields expecting him to be the starter for the whole season.

Too MANY contingencies for someone whom you consider to be "Just A Backup" McCarver

Of course there are contingencies. The draft hasn't even happened.

This is just more deflecting McCarver. You view bum ass Caleb as a starter. Which means Justin Fields is a starter too.

Splitting the 2-3 month self-imposed deadline to March 31, Justin's best case scenario is that by then he is signed to "compete" for a starting gig. But no way is he anointed a starter by then.

Who even cares if he starts the season? A lot of shitty QBs open the season as starters...like Justin Fields (or as ltg will tell you, Caleb) this year.

Pittsburgh (who qualifies as a "good" team) might just be about to do just that. And then you dudes will just find another excuse

He has a history of opening and closing seasons as a "starting QB".

Currently just a backup. Potential future backup.

Preferably in the NFC North, or for a team we are playing in the wild card round of the playoffs.

what fucking year is it at Halas Hall? The people laying the groundwork for McCarthy in the media point to his resume but only the regular season part. Maybe I'm in the extreme minority here but McCarthy's rep is spectacular playoff failures and terrible game management. This just reeks of the same old comfortability hire. I'm still hoping these two don't happen, but this is the absolute laziest possible outcome.

I can say with total confidence that Justin Fields will absolutely get an offer to compete for a starting job.
