Ok, I don’t really have a strong view on that so I need an hour or so to understand why I don’t like it.

Nah he’ll probably do an outstanding job and the Bears defense will be dramatically better. That’s the script.

I'd put them around .500 as of now. Caleb may even have a few touchdowns that actually count too.

8.5 wins

same as last year

Never thought he would take the job with Poles there, would have guessed he would stay in Detroit before coming to Chicago.
This will turn out great or an epic failure, guessing there isn't a lot of middle ground.

From the Lions reporting:

Offensive line coach Hank Fraley could join Johnson in Chicago as coordinator

Because that’s 100% obviously a move to put pressure on the Raiders to pony up.

Does he run a 4-3, 3-4, hybrid? Does our whole defense still depend on a stud DT that is rare to find?

Need a blowhard ass-whupper like Ditka or Guillen to lead in Chicago.

This kid will wash out like all the previous mild-mannered yes men.

You don’t want to be the first visit. Bears are getting used like a cheap whore for leverage.

Win/win for me. In fact him signing in Chicago and me saying the Bears will win four games next year while you all can’t stop hyping this loser team is an even better CALLED IT.

You taking bets on this one?

Let’s wait and see what actually happens.

compare the local reaction of the teams they left for Waldron and Johnson

It is difficult not to love this move, but, of course, we have some here who do not

He had some pretty good years in NOLA, CB.

The current defensive line underwhelms me.

He’s also a 4-3 guy so there doesn’t need to be drastic personnel turnover setting the team back.

I do think this could wind up being the Bears version of Spagnola (DC for the Chiefs). Good defensive mind who probably won’t leave for an HC gig paired up with an offensive minded HC

Great point NME.

Poles is still picking the players however, and early returns are getting worse and worse.

There doesn’t? Last I checked this team’s front four folded once Andrew Billings went down, and then completely died when Matt Eberflus got canned.

I’m gonna say there needs to be some dramatic personnel turnover.

God if only the Bears had an opportunity to take that Hall of Fame 3T in 2023. Ugh, how did Philly get one pick in front them?!!

The next big question is what are they doing with Poles. He has one year left right? Are they extending him or letting him stay with just 1 year left and see where things go?

I'm not a huge fan of the 4-3 but if they can at least get Poles to understand the line is paramount, it can work

We never find out those contract situations but I'm assuming any outcome in 2025 that is 8 wins or more gets him an extension. It's just how George works. He should've been launched a few weeks ago though

The consensus is that Allen is a great defensive mind, just not equipped to be a HC.

Disguises coverages and blitzes, players must be disciplined and instinctive, requires quite a bit out of his LBs and DB's, not great for guys like Stevenson and Edmunds who struggled with basic cover 2 responsibilities.

Also reading speculation that they might just cut Edmunds, that signing looks almost as bad as the Nate Davis decision.

Just holding the defensive players accountable will be a huge change, but you need almost as much help on the defensive line as you do on the offensive line.

Edmunds has not been good, and I would be happy to move on from him, but he is no where near the disaster that Nate Davis was.
