If AD was dealt without Lebron's knowledge, maybe they ship him and his son off to Golden St and go full rebuild?

Dallas actually received the best player in the trade.

Lakers get to kick the tires for a season and a half and decide if he is the heir apparent to LeBron. Maybe he learns something from watching the King. Will be interesting

The fit is going to be terrible. 2 Ball Stoppers who don't bother to compete on defense as your best players is a recipe for disaster. Dallas actually took off last season after Harrison traded for better wing defenders and rim protection. Ostensibly to cover up for Doncic's deficiencies as a defender. This is going to be really interesting given how similar Lebron's and Luka's games happen to be at this point.

You could have gotten a lot more for Luka than AD and 1 pick. Even from the Lakers.

This GM thinks AD is the missing piece for a title this year.

Anthony Davis is a better player than Luka Doncic. Which is why Dallas's GM approached the Lakers in order to make the Deal.

This guy thinks the whole thing is a ploy to extort Texas into approving a new arena/casino for the Adelsons and it’s not the worst argument I’ve heard:

The Adelson's are possibly currently the worst people to own a sports team, which is no small feat. Straight up garbage tier people.

Buying a sports franchise to get ahead of the vice grift is supervillain kind of stuff.

Did you guys watch the Finals last year? Pudgy got pretty well exposed by the Celtics. Now, this doesn't change the trade's unequalness, but it wasn't like the Mavs didn't get the 2nd best center in the league. Short term, it's not horrible. Long term, it's pretty bad.

It’s true he was exposed, but I think you’re burying the lede.

Re-read that first sentence again.

Yep. Which goes back to the truth that Doncic has regressed some. People don't know it. Hell, there was a time I flat out said "The best player in the world is from Slovenia." 4 or 5 players have passed him since. Of course that doesn't mean he doesn't get his shit together, gets in shape, starts at least trying at the other end, and stops blaming the refs for every sleight. Lots of upside.

Regressed this season or starting when you watched him in the finals 8 months ago after he carried the Mavs to the finals?

There has never been a "superstar" in the history of the NBA that was the sort of liability that Doncic was in that series against Boston. And I mean ever

Got to love the "carried" them to the Finals yarn too. Kyrie Irving had a LOT to do with that. Not that anyone would ever acknowledge it of course

A couple years. Carried them to the Finals over who? Nuggets were knocked out.

Well the team that knocked Denver out, for one. And a young OKC team with a much better roster than Dallas.

Boston is/was a great all around team. They exposed Luka by being better at almost every position and wearing him out.

The Mavs absolutely could have got way more of a haul than they did. No idea why they didn't and the league should investigate.

However, trading Luka is the right move, ultimately. He did get exposed in the Finals and I think the Mavs knew they a) couldn't win a Finals with him and b)viewed him as complacent and ultimately destined to a shorter NBA career than he should be due to conditioning. He's a 25 year old in a 35 year old body.

Short term the Mavs will be great if AD has anything left and can stay healthy. Long term they rebuild more easily. Short term for the Lakers, Luka dominates the ball and he and Lebron (who is also fading on defense) turn the Lakers D further south without AD in the middle. Long term, not even sure Luka stays there and if he does, he will increasingly become more and more of a liability.

AD is a top 5 player in the league currently and FWIW has been the best player on a championship team before. Though it was in the NBA bubble

He was atrocious and that's why he's gone. I think Jason Kidd had a big say in this.

I didn't recognize the T-Wolves team that beat Denver and then the one that played Dallas.

Me too. Dallas fired Carlisle in order to appease Luka. I don't think they were going to let him do in another coach. Particularly one that helped them get a ring as a player

odds are against it, yes. Odds are also against Luka and LeBron working well together.
