It's not his funeral, but he's at that funeral.

That 2001 team was way better than people give it credit for. Just couldn’t find a way to block Hugh Douglas, and then came totally unraveled in the fourth quarter with the turnovers. Sad! My first real experience with Bears heartbreak when I was at an age that I could start to comprehend what as I was in for as a fan of this team.

My family never really cared about the Bears. We loved the Cubs and the Hawks but never had any sort of tradition or sentimentality around football. Just wasn't part of our lives, and why would it have been when the Bears were so bad through most of the '90s, anyway. But the Bears pulling wins out of their ass every week in '01 was what roped me in, and I enjoyed a good solid decade and change of being a Bears fan before I soured on them. So thanks for that, Dick Jauron. May you get an eternity's worth of Football Information.

He was diagnosed with cancer a week ago. That reminds me of Gene Upshaw, who ended up at the hospital and found out that he was full of cancer and died four days later.

Got the Bears gig after the Dave McGinnis fiasco.

I always kind of mash his teams together with Lovie’s and give Lovie credit for anything good that happened.

RIP.

I thought he was one of those guys who was super attentive about healthy living.

The bears have a surprising number of coaches who had one good year and were named coach of the year.

Sad stuff, especially since he has been his wife's sole caregiver for the last 10 years or so.

Like Lovie Smith, Dick Jauron coached some really thin rosters in terms of talent. I cannot think of a bigger oddball as head coach / manager of a Chicago sports team. Does Terry Bevington get 2nd place?

That's because of how many awful years they have, so anytime they manage a good year, it's "oh my God!, What a coaching job by (fill in the blank)."
Same reason Ben Johnson is the favorite right now for 2025 Coach of the Year

Yes, Trestman...and Fox was conventionally odd...

Now Abe Gibron, there was a fine Head Coach. Should have won an Emmy for his performance of himself in Brian's Song
