When Field Turf predicts a win, it's not meatball, it's optimism.

Uhh Oh! Can Field Turf stand up to Real Grass Matrix???

ARLINGTON, Texas - When it comes to turf wars, the new Dallas Cowboys stadium will definitely have home field advantage. The Cowboys announced Wednesday that Austin-based Hellas Construction will provide a removable "roll-up" turf system that allows for three different field configurations, a first in the country.

"We have a lot of different types of events already scheduled so having the flexibility to change the field is very important to us," said Jack Hill, general manager of the new Dallas Cowboys stadium. "It is one-of-a-kind and adds another first to not only the largest stadium in the nation but the most unique."

To operate an efficient, successful stadium complex, it is critical to quickly transform into various event configurations. The patented SoftTop™ Removable System from Sportfield, the same company that manufactured the turf at Texas Stadium, is comprised of a total of 41 interchangeable panels that make up three fields. It can be converted in 48 hours and when not being used, the panels can be rolled up and stored below the stadium.

During football season is obviously when the different fields will be most beneficial. The Cowboys' will have their own field, with the blue star in the middle and the painted end zones, along with the NFL hashmarks. However, an NCAA field with college hashmarks will also be available for games that will be played on Saturday. And there will be a third field for various uses, possibly soccer or even high school football games.

With just one field, and the 48-hour turnaround, it would be impossible to hold multiple events in the same weekend.

"The technology is quite unique," said Reed J. Seaton, President and CEO of Hellas Construction. "It allows the stadium to convert from pro football to college football to soccer or lacrosse in a relatively short period of time so they can host any kind of sporting event and give the uniqueness of the kind of artificial turf they want to play on."

The REALGRASS™ Matrix turf is comprised of a monofilament spinneret yarn in two different sizes and colors. This configuration creates the best traction and system stability possible, and under stadium lights the color combination provides excellent light deflection. It also goes through extensive testing to guarantee durability
