Fields camp even called it a low ball offer.

My prediction was he goes to a place to compete with and ultimately lose to a rookie. We will see if the Jets just roll with Fields for a year or not.

Is there a NY Fanatics Message Board? I wonder how the Jets fans are feeling right now?

Your points lack "coherence". At this point you're just simply rambling in order to not appear wrong.

Your poor memory is not my problem.

But the rookie QB thing may not happen. Congrats on Fields getting the worst starting job in the league if that is what happens.

You've been lying about him being "low balled" for the past 2 days in order to save face  . Just as "fairly quickly" was hardly "fairly quickly", low balled doesn't exactly mean "low balled" either.

I don't need to save face. If the Jets don't get a rookie QB then I was wrong. If they do and he replaces him in season then I'm right.

Both teams that had Fields said they weren't really interested in continuing the relationship.

Look man I don't dislike fields and sure man I hope he does well and finds his fit. But his fit wasn't the Bears, and it wasn't Pittsburgh. He's gone now. To the AFC. Why bother obsessing over him now? Just wish him the best and move on. I mean the only reason to give a fuck about that dude now is... well... internet points.

This is why most of the sports thoughts around here are considered rather inane. Pittsburgh ACTUALLY did want to sign Justin Fields. Which means that they did WANT TO CONTINUE THE RELATIONSHIP. Instead of "obsessing" over whether someone is "obsessing" over this, just simply tell the truth and move on. Why is the truth around here so damn difficult to accept? Just Asking A Question

Quote:
The New York Jets landed their new quarterback this week, but they had competition. They just managed to win the battle for his services.

New York agreed to a two-year, $40 million deal with Justin Fields to take over as the team's quarterback. However, according to a report from CBS NFL reporter Aditi Kinkhabwala, the Pittsburgh Steelers wanted Fields back but were beaten out by the Jets. New York clipped the Steelers by guaranteeing money in the second year of the deal, something Pittsburgh was unwilling to do.

Well they didn't make him much of a starting qb offer then. Sounds like they weren't too bummed about getting beat out on their "offer".

Hey dude you just lied and claimed that they didn't want to "continue the relationship". Again why is the truth so difficult to accept?

And again if you don't care about this, then why have you been "chiming" in for the better part of a year? Just Asking Questions

Ain't a lie.
I've bid jobs I don't want. It's in the price.
I've made job offers to guys i don't want. It shows up in the hourly (usually that's union scale which nobody wants to work for).
What was Pittsburghs offer is my question. All the article specified was that there was no guaranteed money. Sounds like an offer you might make that you don't expect to be accepted.

Without delving too deep into your occupational "ethos" I'll just say that I doubt very seriously if it has anything to do with why Pittsburgh made a contract offer to Justin Fields to be their starting QB this past weekend.

And anyone that knows sports knows that when teams do not want to "continue the relationship" with guys that are free agents, they do not offer them a contract. Particularly one the size of the one tendered to Fields.
And there was actually guaranteed money on the table for him by the way

What did Pittsburgh offer?

By all accounts a contract that was the same amount over 2 years. The difference was that the Jets were willing to guarantee some of the money during the 2nd year and Pittsburgh was not. If the Jets cut him after this season he collects $30 of the $40 mil whereas if Pittsburgh were to cut him after this season he'd only collect $20 of the $40 mil. The sticking point appears to have come down to the $10 million dollar difference in guaranteed money apparently

$20 mil per season is hardly a "lowball" offer however

Maybe if we're talking long term deal but two years signals they're not so sure and the lack of guaranteed money shows Pittsburghs lack of commitment.

Anyway, he's a Jets now so... good luck over there and I'm gonna root on my guy on my team.

Who knows. His signing with the Jets was announced shortly after the free agency period began. And again it's disingenuous to suggest that they wanted to "discontinue the the relationship" when they clearly wanted to continue the relationship.

He's a starting QB as it stands now and we'll see how he does with a new team.

Daniel Jones got $14 to $17 million based on incentives to be a backup and compete with Richardson.

And none of that has to do with Justin Fields or his situation with Pittsburgh.

If Pittsburgh didn't want him they would not have tendered a cintract

Eeeeeeh, I'm not so sure that's clear. They gave him a low risk high reward non guaranteed contract and got beat by a slightly higher risk but still fairly low risk high reward contract.

I think if Pittsburgh really thought he was their guy, they'd have gone guaranteed and longer years. 2 years ain't serious for a qb of his age. At best, Pittsburgh wasn't really sure. Two years without guarantees says if something else comes up they can bail.

So I guess I'm saying that if what the Jets gave him beats Pittsburghs offer, the Pittsburghs offer wasn't serious.

You originally implied that it was virtually "nonexistent". Which would be false

And none of that has to do with Justin Fields or his situation with Pittsburgh.

If Pittsburgh didn't want him they would not have tendered a cintract

It shows that $20 million isn't great for a starting QB.

Anyway, he's a Jets now so... good luck over there and I'm gonna root on my guy on my team.

Feel free to do whatever you like. None of it much matters to me.

Lol. Cmon man.

It matters to you. A lot.

He's actually guaranteed to make $30 mil if he is cut. Which I'm sure you don't consider to be "great" either.

And again if Pittsburgh didn't want him they would not have tendered him an offer
