Simplest explanation is that he sucks.

So they are sending Montgomery down to AAA to start the year. I do not understand that at all. With where things stand with this team, should you not get him in the lineup everyday and see what you have for the future? What is he going to gain at AAA this year that he could not get with the Big league club

Gotta make room for Tim Anderson’s return

Pretty fair to just write the kid off at this point. That sucks. I had hopes for him.

How can you write him off without at least a few months on the Big league roster?

Writing people off is easy.

It’s so much easier than holding out hope for a guy. You just kind of say “this guy sucks,” and more often than not, you’re right!

Well if that is the standard they should just shut the team down and find something else to do!

Isn’t that what they’ve been doing?

You don't even know what a write off is.

He's never really hit in the upper levels of the minors. Therefore, I doubt he's going to hit on the major league level. I'm surprised he's still a ranked prospect.

It’s not like I’m just quitting on him because of this one thing.

He’s been on thin ice for a very long time, being unable to break camp with the big league squad with truly zero competition is really just the last straw more than anything. How much longer can I continue to believe in a guy just off a crazy seventeen game stretch in A+ ball in 2023? He’s not really done much since.

I'm waiting for a similar "out for season" announcement on Drew Thorpe.

We're getting closer:

And we're there. Shocking.

Quote:
The White Sox announced that right-hander Drew Thorpe will undergo a Tommy John surgery. Dr. Keith Meister will perform the procedure, and Thorpe will miss the next 13-15 months in recovery.

Is Meister a budget James Andrews?

Where's Tommy John surgery on the Why Baseball Sucks list. It might be top 5.

Drew Thorpe to undergo Tommy John surgery, adding to White Sox injury woes: ‘Kind of a gut punch’

The pitching injuries have piled up for the Sox this spring. Ky Bush, Prelander Berroa, Juan Carela and Blake Larson are also sidelined with Tommy John surgery. Mason Adams was recently diagnosed with a flexor strain in his right elbow.

It's almost become a standard portion of a pitcher's career arc.

They can still win more games than last season with some luck, but this roster is going to be worse than last year's until if/when they begin bringing up some of their younger talent. The MLB roster, to start this season, has no Fedde or Crochet...They added cast off type players and their young talent is unlikely to make much of a difference at all, until at best, later this season.

Just bet the moneyline against them every day.

Probably.

Quote:
Betting on baseball traditionally is based on the money line, the odds to win a game straight up. Websites like Covers.com track how much a bettor would be up or down if they bet $100 on a team in every game. If an unlucky bettor put $100 on the White Sox in every game this season, they'd be down approximately $6,100. A 60-unit loss is extraordinary and easily the worst season on the money line in over two decades. According to Covers, the 2018 Baltimore Orioles are the only other team to finish a season down more than $5,000 in the past 20 years.

Consistently betting on the White Sox has not been a popular approach this season, but some bettors have been repeatedly betting against them. Brad Bartel, an avid bettor from Chicago, began betting against the White Sox every game during their record-tying 21-game losing streak in July.

"Once they got on that streak, it seemed like there was no end in sight for them losing," Bartel told ESPN. "So, at that point, I decided it would be a fun and funny thing to do, especially being located here in Chicago."

Bartel's daily fade of the White Sox led to the creation of a group chat with betting buddies titled "White Sox L's." He's been betting against the White Sox in every game for over a month, often risking $200 or $300 on the favored opponents to win $100. He sees no reason to stop fading the White Sox now and plans to continue to do so throughout the remainder of the season.

If you figure -200 on average a game, I think they'd have to win 55 games to lose money. But IS IT -200 on average a game? seems high.
