So Rongey was in with Larry in the last half of the show today. That seems odd. Wonder if he is in the mix for something more.

I always liked Rongey. It wasn't a good strategy to rip his fans and carry water for a losing White Sox team, but his other work was decent.

I can't get past that. There's carrying water for the team and then there's ripping people for the joy of ripping people. He was the latter. Bernstein level of animosity without the intelligence to back it up.

The constant defense of Greg Walker. "hitting coaches mean nothing". That part is fine, it's wrong but it's a main stream stats nerd stance, but the point was Walker was a Charlie Lau brand. An obsolete method. Months of defense, ripping callers, and then when Walker got bounced, "Good move."

I liked him on postgame. A guy being forced to defend the indefensible is good radio.

I swear sometimes people just want tune in and have a guy validate their thoughts for several hours.

Yesterday Holmes bragging about still having a major league arm and worked out Tom House style. I played against him in high school like most of us he was meh. No wonder he is single at 50

Wait just a second here...we have proof of life on the Sir baseball career. I knew he wasn't lying, unlike you unbelievers.

Larry Holmes interviewed 6 years ago.

Gimme an "Uncle Rico" moment from your sports playing past. I once pitched 5 2/3 of relief in the first game of a doubleheader (we were getting blown out) against Northwestern. My curve ball got more effective as my arm tired out and I started the 2nd game because I was having success. I struck out 7. Back then I could throw 80 mph. I was a catcher. I couldn't lift my arm for a week after that.

What do you dislike most in others? Being inauthentic.

A few observations:

Yesterday when talking about relationships, Larry mentioned his relationship with a "Meg"?

Has anyone noticed that Spiegel now does this very raspy laugh thing that Mac used to do

This pairing is so odd, even worse now that Riordan is gone, even though I wasn't his biggest fan.
I can just feel Spiegel biting his tongue every time Larry says, "no guys, you need to hear this" he then
proceeds to play audio of a podcast, or interview he heard elsewhere wayyyy to long, then expects Spiegel to
react, which usually is "yea......boy, that's something right there, you nailed it"

I give credit to Spiegel for lasting this long, but you can tell the fun is all gone, I can't imagine this pairing lasting
much longer before Spiegel gives up.

I heard that. I think he comparing himself to Bill Belichick and how he also needs someone to help manage him when he over-commits on things.

Holmes compared himself to Belichick. They were talking about Belichick's relationship and how Jordan (is that her name?) could be helping to manage him, and Mel has helped Lawrence do the same with his tendancy to over-committ, etc.

once you figure out his bits/beats, you realize how incredibly insufferable he really is. I will not listen to a show he's on. I just can't do it. Too bad, I'm in the minority who like Spiegel.

I like Spiegs enough but he would leave the station behind if he ever hit it big with his music.

I'm happy for Sir if he found someone with whom he can share his life.

I wonder if Spiegel, at the height of the Mac show, thought he could carve a niche for himself as the Weird Al of sports. Maybe he could have taken the song-parody bit national, whatever that would look like.

Spiegs issue with showbiz is that he used to weigh like 450 lbs and now post-Ozempic he looks super weird and oblong. It’s a shallow world we live in. Sorry, Matt.

I think the Sports Weird Al gimmick could have worked when he was full Grimace. You can look absurd when you're singing "Duncan Keith and he's got no teeth."
