Harris and Rahimi will be named as the new midday show on Monday morning. Grote will make it a three-person show every now and then.

New is not new since this has pretty much been the show over the last month.

What is malpractice is that there was NO tryout process. No one was brought in to do test shows or guest shows or anything like that. Grote 1-2 times per week makes it a little fresher, but even that is half-hearted attempt to change it up IMO.

I know the bench right now isn't the same as it was, but to not bring anyone in or pair anyone else together in a test run signals what many of us have said: The station is no longer bold. They are going through the motions. They are gatekeepers.

Not saying Herron or Mahklouf or Richards should be on the midday show, but it's the PRINCIPLE of it. No attempt at other voices. No one from another market. No one from an emerging podcast. Nothing.

Grote and Mahklouf were miles better than Leila and Harris.

Sad situation.

When Larry and Meatpants are the best that you got you are in deep trouble.

It sucks. They don't care. They're doing the bare minimum to keep the lights on between Cubs games.

That’s it. They have no money. Just doing the bare minimum and hoping bears and cubs will pull them thru

They weren't losing Leila, for obvious reasons, even though a woman like Ruthie Polinsky was almost immediately better.

I don't listen to middays so this doesn't effect me, but they should have a short list of people making names on weekends/part time.

Polinsky would definitely be an instant upgrade over Leila--and just about all of the other hosts on the station.

Hoge and Jahns or Fishbain would also have been an instant improvement.

Like Hair said, they just don't care. Finding a tandem better than the abysmal Harris and Rahimi is hardly a difficult task if you're paying attention.

I'm not even sure how either of them were deemed adequate by station management in the first place.

Oh, I think pretty much everyone knows why they were deemed adequate

The minimum effort to say they're still "local" in the daypart. Joke.

I suspect a lot of names that would’ve killed for this job five years ago are simply no longer interested.

Welp, no longer listening I guess. And not in a 'I said I wouldn't listen but Dan Bernstein compels me to write down every imagined slight because he made a mean joke about Ron Santo' way.

They aren't bringing in any other candidates to host. Wouldn't they be doing that if they were considering other candidates?

Not sure why it takes so long to do something that seems very likely to happen though.

If I remember correctly, they did this in 2008 after North left. Mully and Hanley vacated the 10-noon shift, and there were indications that it would be a variety of fill-ins as sort of a public audition. It ended up basically just being Laurence Holmes every day, who then, guess who won the pony, got the show full-time with Dan Hampton, albeit only for like eight or nine months.

So Mitch did this again, only with less talented people than Leery. Sad, really.

The best part is going to be Grote trying to riff with the two worst riffers on earth. It'll be like that Kids in the Hall vaudeville sketch where Dave Foley is like "I see where you're confused. You see, the first baseman is named Hoo, which sounds like the word 'who,' and the second baseman, Watt, could be mistaken for 'what.'"

"The Joys of Suicide" can be the name of the new show.

Leila is complaining about people texting and saying "Welcome back to middays." because she was there at least two days a week, never really left, and blah, blah, blah.

Harris is a dork and Leila is dull and whiny. Adding Grote, the milquetoast Grobstein sound-alike, is just more bad piled on top of bad.

This is the essence of the Leila Rahimi experience: this constant low hum of grievance and hurt feelings over inconsequential nonsense, but without any sort of clever or charming neuroticism. I think the perfect example is when she was like "I don't want you to say my name before a day of the week BECAUSE I SAID I DON'T WANT TO." "People are welcoming me back when technically I didn't really leave [the station announced that I have come back]" is another.

I'm sure she has enough real grievances, like people asking about her dating life. Why must she also include all this (accurately described) inconsequential nonsense, I dunno

Yeah, I knew this was coming… Spiegel referenced Leila doing a “good job of driving the show“ the other week when talking about a reference Ozzie Guillen made.

Grote is an addition because they need a Chicago voice. He will bring them that.

670 doesn't have money to hire someone else considering they fired some staff today.

Shane just posted on Twitter that he is gone

It's insane to me that Leila is driving...even if she does a good job with the content she struggles to not sound like shit, which seems like a fair prerequisite for driving a show. Then again, Mully has done it for 20 years.

I suppose this could be all this was, they couldn't keep a temporary show while Marshall is still under contract, so just announce this as permanent, a completely meaningless term in radio and especially recent Score history.

Does mean lack of tryouts, but they should be poaching talent not trying out anyway.

I'll never understand why they stopped hiring interns (10ish or so years ago).

I listened to what may have been 10 of the worst minutes in radio history in transition. Spiegel, LoHo, the other two…they’re individually and collectively the least dynamic radio talkers I’ve ever heard.

How much does Mitch hate Grote that he’s topping out as a part time guest on the world’s worst radio show?

Probably bc they had to start paying them, and we're getting complaints about Spiegel's demanding food orders
