Just parallel thinking. Garage storm observing is enthralling

Gumball and marble sized hail for 2-3 minutes. Pretty sure there was nothing damaged and the car was in the garage. A lot of leaves and branches down this morning so I will be spending some time cleaning that up this afternoon. Not a huge deal, actually could have used a bit more rain. Only about 1/16 of an inch in the gauge.

We just had tons of hail….

Are you in Adams county? I’m in Sauk and my phone was going off every 5 minutes. Some good size hail and a bit of rain has turned to sunshine (at the moment).

No way bros! I'm up in Juneau County! Best I can describe it as is a paradox wrapped in artisanal cheesecloth. Not gonna lie, I came here because of the promise of acreage, quiet nights, and a mortgage that costs less than my car lease back in Lincoln Park. I told myself I was being “intentional” — that remote work and rustic charm would bring balance. And for a while, it worked. I wake up to a French press made with beans flown in from Portland and drive my Rivian through deer-crossing zones to a coworking space that's actually just a repurposed bank with fast Wi-Fi and a neon "Create" sign. The barista there knows what a cortado is, but I had to teach her the difference between an NFT and a PDF. Dinner is a choice between the farm-to-table bistro (open Thursday–Saturday, reservation only) and a supper club where Old Fashioneds are made with brandy and fish fries are sacrosanct. You best bet I post ironic photos from both. Yeah I miss the city — the energy, the diversity, the sushi that didn’t come pre-frozen. But I've traded that for "good schools," hiking trails with no crowds, and a lake house I'm trying to convince my friends from Evanston to visit (they won’t).

Culturally, I'm an anomaly. I still subscribe to the New Yorker, wear Allbirds without irony, and pay for three different mindfulness apps. But now I also own a snowblower, a Traeger grill, and a camo jacket “just for blend.” I tell people I'm “rewriting what success looks like.” Really, I'm just trying to reconcile a Patagonia vest soul with a place that thinks Culver’s is fine dining — and you know what? I'm starting to come around.

The cheese curds slap.

Anyone else just get a dust storm warning on their phone?

Driving home from the FIL house on I57 and got a warning and it was eerie. I pulled off to a gas station waited for a little while. It got really dark and was crazy the amount of wind and dust blowing around. It felt like a movie scene.
