It's been this way through the whole Drew Hays-Mitch Rosen era.

Much cheaper, you have to admit. Just a producer to mix in the ads, and you're done. Why the Score had a local morning show was kinda confusing...

A local morning show that did not even have their own guys, they had fill in guys.

How much would Webbe and Rock cost? $50? $100? arew they hurting that bad they cant afford it?

This is not about money this is about a BAD programming manager who rarely tries to do anything outside his simpleton box because he never sees the upside, instead of just trying something.

I think I know who you're referring...The "2 Live Stews" are two sports radio guys based in Atlanta whose show airs on Sporting News Radio nationally during the week. I've seen them on ESPN's "Outside the Lines" & on "Jim Rome is Burning". While I'm not sure who filled in for those 2 Thanksgiving Day, I'm very puzzled why 670 "The SCORE" decided not to air the first game of the NFL's Thanksgiving Day tripleheader in favor of national sports talk from SNR in Los Angeles. While I'm at it, why hasn't Matt Abbatacola, Jason Goff & Brian "Whipping Boy" Paruch gotten more of an opportunity to talk sports since the White Sox season ended? I bet all three of those guys wouldn't mind hosting local shows on nights there's no DePaul, NIU and Westwood One NFL game planned, let alone hosting on weekend afternoons instead of hours & hours of SNR...

Tis the season for bad programming. There was a day when Dahl had to do shows on Thanksgiving afternoon. North used to always work the day after Thanksgiving. It was fun radio but those days are gone.

I thought the new way of calculating ratings books would eliminate emptying the bench this time of year. Logically, people are taking off and working at home/driving while listening to the radio. This would seem to be the time when the most people are listening.

Definitely agree. To my uneducated mind, weekends and holiday "after-days" are always good rating potentials. What do I know?

As I was in Wisconsin driving home it truely felt like I lived in a podunk town. Had to import some crap radio, couldnt even get any local guy to do some 'lists'. Call me with your best Thanksgiving football story.

I would rather hear Matt Weber try and pull some Dave Baum like radio than listen to a couple of guys in Atlanta talk to me about Falcons football?

Big Fan, this isn't your father's "SCORE"! When they first signed on as a daytime only station at 820 AM in 1992, "The SCORE" was all about Chicago sports and a place for fans to talk about the teams & players... I think when Mitch Rosen came to WSCR as Program Director a few years ago, he seemed to bring some of the national sports talk with him from when he programmed ESPN Radio 1000...

Maybe it was my imaginary radio but I thought I was listening to the Joe Ostrosky / Matt Weber Webio Show on T-giving morning - chock full of fun and oddly-inspired, over-the-top, spontaneous excitement.

I liked the show as it kept me entertained and was interesting to hear some different voices on the air. Thumbs up to the original Webio show.

The producers of "Mully & Hanley in the Morning" & "Hampton & Holmes" were the ONLY local sports talk show on Thanksgiving morning, Dr. Noisewater. They had David Schuster & Jesse Rogers hosting Friday morning, while the likes of Jason Goff & Brian "The Whipping Boy" Paruch hosted solo shows sandwiched by NIU basketball from the Great Alaska Shootout in between before going directly to Los Angeles for Sporting News Radio the rest of Friday night. SNR was also on WSCR 670 right after the DePaul game Saturday afternoon & night...NO LOCAL SPORTS TALK from the station that's supposed to be "Chicago's #1 Sports Radio Station"!

So, when were these "STUs" supposedly on the radio? I'm confused as to the premise of this thread.

SHARK, please clear up my confusion.

Doc, all I wrote was that I've heard of "Two Live Stews", who are two sports talk radio hosts based in Atlanta. They host a show on Sporting News Radio nationally while "Hampton & Holmes" & Mike Murphy hold court middays locally. I've seen them appear on the likes of ESPN's "Outside the Lines"...The thread had to do with what 670 "The SCORE" aired Thanksgiving Day instead of game 1 of the NFL's Thanksgiving Day Tripleheader via Westwood One. While WSCR aired the Seahawks/Cowboys & Cardinals/Eagles' games Thursday, they went to SNR instead of airing the Titans/Lions' game...

Ahh, I had tuned out by 11am or so. So, OOgie was upset that, despite the local programming that had aired all morning, the local programming did not continue into early afternoon. I understand.

SHARK, you, as always, have provided the 411. I find that your information has been useful and has also possibly jeopardized your reputation for extraneous information.

However, you did add a recap of your earlier posts in this thread for no apparent reason. So, good for you.

Thanks, Doc... 8) This is not your father's "SCORE" anymore.

SHARK maybe if 2 Live Stews were actually on the air, one could say they are ok or not.

I still would like to hear the arguement of local programming v National?

I am sure you still need an engineer? and producer? someone needs to play commercials?

So Jason Goff costs more to have on the air than tapping into Sporting News? I am sure they charge something?

Big Fan, I'm not in radio, but I think "The SCORE", ESPN Radio 1000 & other talk radio stations that air national programming have board operators & engineers working behind the scenes...I think the board ops & EIC are responsible for plugging in the local commercials that air during the national programming & the show's content. This much I definitely know. Because of budget cuts ordered by the corporate owners such as CBS Radio, ABC/Disney, etc., you don't hear live, local programming after midnight anymore on many stations. They think it's cheaper to air syndicated programming on AM, with jockless music on the FM side until the crack of dawn. It's a sign of the times...
