I think John Williams is the right guy for mornings. I don't know if I want weekday Nick D., though. The appeal of his show is that it's on late at night and it's weird, enjoyably weird because you're in a different mood by then. If I were listening to banter about crappy B-movies during my mid-morning peak hours of mental acuity, I think I'd just get irritated.

Nick D is way too talented to be pigeonholed to graveyard shifts for the rest of his life. Overnights could permanently use a guy like him, but he deserves a shot to move up. Roy gave him his 1st opportunity. Old and stodgy WGN has probably held him back from where he should be.....the Gary Lee Wright pairing bogged him down--WGN couldnt trust a young guy to go on his own without the training wheels. They've come a long way now from all nite BigBand Muzak Saturdays and Kumbaya Sundays .

The banter just comes with the territory of being overnites . Improvising thru dead air has given us some of his best podcast moments-- worthy of Steve Dahl ,Johnny B or Mancow at their best. The quality of guests he books often exceeds what you'd expect from that time slot--- the whole show could be 'Ridin shotgun' or a Nugent free-for-all if he wanted to. Both Williams and Cochran have flagrantly 'borrowed ' plenty of material from NickD thru the years. Remember John William's voice mail bits?

Gotta roll the dice as far as time slot adaptability goes. Boers and Bernstein used to be pretty loose during Middays --they've since tightened up pretty well for afternoon drive. On the other side of the coin Kevin Matthews was a disaster on his change from middays to everywhere else. I presume NickD will be able to adapt.
The hard part is staying interesting while still appeasing the 60-70 year old WGN seniors crowd. He's filled-in well in the past.

From WGN's standpoint, its a no-brainer. Homegrown talent is the cheapest solution to start. I'm sure he's auditioning on the fill-in shows this week. Good luck NickD !

I like Nick and he doesn't seem to distance himself too far from his older audience. Sadly, I find WGN more and more of a listen as the quality of sports radio gets worse and worse around here.

The only problem with Nick going to 1-4 is the only good radio right now is on 2-6 and it's already 2 shows deep.

Why can't he kick Kathy and Judy to the curb?

NARC?

They are listenable sometimes for about four minutes.

Kathy and Judy are okay and sometimes I listen but would rather have him at 9 so I could have me some B&B or MJ and H and some Nick.

Nick is doing the 1-4 shift today and tomorrow. Not sure who is on the rest of the week.

Kathy and Judy are like letting Anne have her own show.

During the summer, getting my car after listening to a Cubs game the night before and hearing them is like nails on a chalkboard. Almost like an SNL skit.

Is Nick D in the Beastie Boys?

Heard Nick last night for a few minutes and he mentioned he will be doing a couple of middays a week for the next few weeks and no mention of naming a permanent host for that slot.

I think Nick will be getting it permanently.

It's the safe route right now. WGN listeners know and like him and he won't cost the money a big name would.

Nicky D lost me. He stumbles thru Drunks In The News with some sing-song number for every story: DRUNK NUMBER TWO OO OO OO OOOOOOO. He needs to pre-read his news before he "Hamptons" thru it. I say he doesn't get it but Zampillo does!

I still say he's too 'edgy' for the casual WGN listener. He'll be perfect to take over for Steve and Johnnie when they retire.

As for the current slot, I wouldn't be surprised to see someone boring like that Dan Diebert to get a look. He's a WGN kind of guy. Boring with a bad voice.
