anything that keeps Sh*tzuris off the field is an upgrade in my book.

Basically the Cards need everything but a first baseman, some corner outfielders and at least 5 #3 pitchers.

Fresh after acquiring Javy Vazquez from the White Sox, the Braves are said to be pondering a 5 year offer for another righty, Blue Jays' free agent A.J. Burnett.

The Tigers have made two unspectacular moves today. They acquired Gerald Laird from the Rangers for two minor league pitchers and they signed SS Adam Everett to a 1yr/$1 mil deal. This team is going nowhere fast unless they do something about the pitching (starting and bullpen).

On "C.C. Sabathia Watch", ESPN reports that the free agent pitcher met with the Yankees, Red Sox & Brewers, but won't make a decision this week. There is a chance the Dodgers could also be in the mix for the lefty, who still prefers to pitch out West.

CC to sign for 7yr/$160 mil with the Yankees. Insanity! CC is one of my favs so I don't want to see him do bad but part of me wishes the Yankees will regret this deal.

Yankees offered so much money that he probably didn't have a choice. I would never sign a guy to 7 years because it's a pretty good bet that he'll either be ineffecitve, hurt, or nowhere near the pitcher he was in the 2nd part of that contract. Then again, it's the Yankees so they can afford those types of deals.

BD, I think it really sucks that the Yankees constantly get whoever they want, no matter how much it costs, while other teams in Allan H. Selig's Major League Baseball simply can't compete with the unlimited resources, including their own regional sports network simply called YES! I also think it was absolute bull that C.C. wanted to pitch on the West Coast when he wanted the best, and I think only team that could offer him that kind of cash, even in this economic recession this country is in! :x

Atlanta signed Furcal to a 3 yr deal. They now have Fucal, Escobar and K. Johnson. They will be moving one of them for a pitcher. Does this mean the Peavy talks will start up again?? Atlanta GM Frank Wren is doing a fine job this off season.

It looks like Furcal to the Braves isn't a done deal. I read that Furcal would prefer to stay with the Dodgers but their offer wasn't even close to the A's or Braves. If Coletti increases his offer Furcal could end up staying with the Dodgers after all.

FOXSports.com's Ken Rosenthal wrote in his column that the Dodgers are concerned about Rafael's health, and that the Braves are still the favorites to get the shortstop back to Atlanta. Rosenthal also added that if Furcal returns to Turner Field, there's talk he may supplant Kelly Johnson as the team's full time second baseman, especially with word that Furcal's playing second in winter ball and/or a potential deal involving Kelly for pitching help. Meanwhile, another high-priced free agent, Mark Teixeira, might be leaning towards Baltimore, believe it or not. The free agent first baseman is said to be looking at the Orioles in large part because his home is actually in Maryland, for what it's worth, and not necessarily because Baltimore is any closer to challenging the A.L. Champion Rays, Yankees & Red Sox.

Rosenthal is reporting that Furcal will indeed resign with the Dodgers. This sucks for the Sox because Orlando Cabrera was the their backup plan. The Dodgers hold the 17th pick in next years draft which would have gone to the Sox if OC signed with them. Now the suitors for OC seem to be the A's and Royals. Both their 1st round picks are protected so the Sox would receive a 2nd round pick (and the sandwich pick) if OC signs with one of them. The Twins Blue Jays are a long shots to sign him.

Well one thing you have to realize is, in the case of Furcal, he is more suited in the system of the Dodgers at this point, than the Braves, because the Braves are in a state of rebuilding. This does not work well for a player like Furcal, who is in a position in the lineup that demands a functioning system. In his quest to become a hall of famer, it is necessary for him to be a part of a winning system, such as The Machine was for me. Imagine if I was part of a rebuilding team in the best years of my life. It would have most likely been a disaster, if I had been with, say the Cubs, or the Brewers. Or, can you think of it? The Expos? Well, luckily I did not have to go through that, and I became a hall of famer by being a part of a winning system that I contributed to. Contributing is a very important factor, but you have to be in a working system in order for the working system to have the ability to work in the first place. So what Furcal is doing is the right thing.

Hints for Morgan troll: mention consistency and "haven't seen him play" more often. Check old FireJoeMorgan.com posts of Morgan's chats for examples.

Troll quality 4 out of 5.

Atlanta Braves' Vice President of Baseball Operations John Schuerholz is furious at Rafael Furcal & his agent, Arn Tellem, in the wake Rafael re-signing with the Los Angeles Dodgers after it appeared as if Furcal was going to sign with Atlanta. Much like the White Sox want nothing to do with agent Scott Bora$, Schuerholz told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution that the Braves will never do business again with Tellem in the wake of the Furcal fiasco. For his part, the shortstop disputes that he was even close to a deal to returning to Atlanta.

According to the Washington Times, "there will be an announcement today regarding the future of" Mark Teixeira and "there are strong indications that the Red Sox will announce that they have landed" him.

Wow. Boston has to be considered WS favs if they add Tex. I can't believe LAA let him go without putting up much of a fight. They may add some complimentary pieces like Fuentes, O. Perez or Dunn with the money allocated to resigning Tex but this leaves a HUGE hole in the middle of their lineup.

Mark Teixeira will get an eight-year deal worth $170 million-$180 million from the Yankees, according to SI.com and ESPN.

Unfuckingbelievable. The evil empire strikes again. Fuck you, assholes!

the two moves they've made will backfire. C.C. was a bad signing. Mark is a good signing, but name me the Yankees rotation...
